if you look at the very first pic of stacy's story you can see it before it got stolen and yeah it did have the mirrors of the same color of the car. must be one of the rare ones.

About $8,500. Canadian. Of course, this does not include the cost of many "sets" of manicured fingernails.

Bahahaha!

Manntis, normally you are very articulate

I'll take that as "one hell of a compliment"

Thanks!

Also, thank-you to the rest of you who have complimented. It took me a long time to get it looking like it used to, but, it was worth it.

Btw, when I bought the car, the mirrors were the same color as the body. The very first picture I sent Jim Rothe shows the 16 year old (at the time) stock paint.

Thanks again guys!

I wish more people would take this much care over their cars ... its really nice to see you didn't give up on it and let the little b@stards whole stole your car send it to an early grave ... Top job

It would be nice if I could. However, don't I have to have at least 100 posts?

Maybe one of the moderators or perhaps the administrator would make an exception?

Stacey
I noticed in one picture where you were holding some wires around the shifter area that you had nice fingernails, lol.

Today, the estimator told me that he went home and cried that night.
What happened? I think I missed that part.

That restoration is amazing. The car looks awesome, great job. I'm glad it all worked out in the end. Now if only we could have some time alone with the guy who stole it...

The day after the car was recovered, I had an appointment with the adjuster and the estimator. This man was the estimator who told me he was classifying the car as "dismantle only". Because I am an Insurance Broker, I knew immediately this ment not even *I* could buy the car back.

I broke down and cried and just walked out of the claim center without signing any paperwork.

I did not see this man again until I drove the car back after it was restored. It was that day he told me he was terribly upset about the car and my reaction to being told it was going to be dismantled. He said went home that day and cried.

That's an amazing restoration. I also remember when this happened, what a shock to see the condition the car returned in. Heartbreaking. I now have faith that one day I can restore my SA to mint condition, thanks.

Good to see such an awesome restoration. Such a shame that these ****** stole it in the first place. Sure hope ICBC covered the $8500 rather than sticking you with a sizable portion of the bill.
BTW, It would be a very good idea to have two annual appraisals done on it too. The last time I checked (years ago) ICBC required not one but two appraisals and honored the lower of the two in the event of a write-off. Hate those crooks. They're notorious for lowballing their clients. To you and people like us it's a priceless gem. To them it's just a car.

Stacey, you are an inspiration! Some things in life we gotta do -- not because they are logical, but because it's the right thing at a deeper level. Yep, this is a great example. Bless you and your car!

btw, I think any GSL-SE made late in 85 came with painted mirrors. My original SE came from the west coast, and it did NOT have black mirrors.

Glad you got it back. I remember when this happened and there's still interest in the story.
