sta-bil fuel stabilizer question

Hey Guys,

I just took my car to the gas station, and then back home for the last time before I pulled th eplates off of it,and returned them to the RMV.I found my bottle of Sta-bil in the garage, and I could not read the instructions on it because of the fact the bottle is old.I put 3 oz's in the tank before filling up,and I am wondering if I used too much,or too little.Does nayone have a bottle of sta-bil handy that you can read the instructions on the ratio of stabil to fuel?Any help on this is appreciated.

It was sort of sad driving it for the last time until the spring, but it just makes me happier that I know I will have it for years to come this way,and it makes you appreciate it so much more. Thanks in advance.

Sta-bil

I'm not looking at the bottle-- but if my memory serves me it is usually 1oz of stabil per 2 gallons of fuel. So I would put some more in!

I don't think it's real critical, but if I remember right, it's 1 ounce per 2.5 gallons.

the bottle I got is a similar brand and just as effective.it States 15ml to I gallon..Roughly Translated if you had a Tank then you would throw in the Bottle's contents...Gas Now-a-days has alot of additives,so frankly it should be OK.I was all Worried up last year having my car out in the middle of the Parking Lot,In the cold Canadian Winter.I left it three weeks, went out and it Started.I only had 15ml of Stabil in the gas.(and a quarter tank).

I don't agree with this...gas will still gum up if left long enough...and a full winter is long enough. It's smart to use Stabil.

Talking

Other things to consider when storing for the winter....
Change the oil to Synthetic. Even though it's not being driven. Condensation automatically forms in the oil pan which causes contamination.
Recommend that you put a Automatic battery charger on to keep your battery charged up and help it retain it's full life.
If you do not have a winter windshield solution in your bottle, either drain it or put some in. You don't want the bottle to freeze, then crack the reservoir..
If possible put the vehicle up on jack stands. It's not good for the tires to stay in 1 stationary posistion. It causes damage to the cords/belts.
The most critical of course is to make sure that there is a proper amount of anti-freeze in the motor or hook up a block heater to the engine.

Thanks for the replies so far.I am glad to see I didn't put too much in it.I can always add more, but I can't take it out.The bad thing is now when I add the right mixture,it won't mix up well like when I did it before I filled the tank, but it should still work, right?

RX7 doctor--- I was planning on changing the oil before the winter, and then again in the spring.Would this be okay,or is the sythetic the only way to do this?I would rather not use synthetic oil,as I have had bad experiences with it on other vehicles in the past.

I have a trickle charger for the battery, and the windshield washer reservoir is filled with the blue fluid so it should not freeze(I live in New england we never use straight water in anything).

the original owner had this ritual about winterizing the car that involved jacking th ecar up,but only partially unweighting the suspension, and not taking the tires off the ground, but taking the weight off of them.Does this sound ike a good idea?I had the car on jackstands all last winter while I was going through it after I bought it in October of 05.

He also had a method of running the car,and spraying oil down the throat of the carb until it died that I didn't really understand, but maybe someone could help me on this one.I have owned RX-7's for years now,and never did too much to winterize them, but I love this car,and want to enjoy it for years so help me out here.I know Stu in Alaska had a nice write up on winterizing, but I don't remember anything about oil down the carb throat while it was running. Thanks again.

Per the label, 1oz to 2.5 gallons.
Make sure to run the car (after putting the other 3 ounces in) to get the Stabil-ized fuel through the lines and into the carb.

As stated by the posts just before this one, make sure you run it...I think that's the most important thing, to make sure the fuel in the lines and in the carb has been treated.

Hey guys,

I wanted to re-visit this post. I was wondering, does Sta-bil go bad? I have had this same bottle for years, and I was wondering if I should get a new one. Also where can I find the capacity of my 79's fuel tank?

The capacity of the SA gas tank is 54.8884 litres or 14.5 gallons. So you'd need about 6 ounces of Sta-bil for a full tank.. But a little less or a little extra won't hurt the car.

Thanks Orion. I forgot that I have the owners manual for this car,so after I posted I went out to the garage, and found the owners manual that had the capacity listed. Now I think my REPU gas tank is 18 gallons,or close as that is how much I pumped into it this morning, and the gas gauge was on the E the whole 5-6 miles trip to the station. I added the Sta-bil after I filled the REPU,and then drove a few miles to work, and then about 7-8 miles home. That should be good for the REPU,right?

I haven't been to a Wally World in about 6 years, and I don't plan to start now. I think this stuffis fine, but I guess I will find out in about 4 months when I try to fire up the REPU again.
