sputtered and died...wont start back up

My dad and i had just completed an engine swap 12a to 12a and the car started perfectly. I drove it the whole weekend with no problem, until sunday night. I had just dropped off a friend, and as i was pulling up to a stop light the car sputtered and died. I tried to start it and it would just crank over and over again. It seems like its cranking over faster than before, and im in fear of bad seals. Any suggestions to this problem would be very helpful.
thanks.

Check for spark, check for fuel to the carb. Then post back with results...

Check to make sure their is fuel in the tank. :-)

And of course that the fuel pump fuse did not blow.

ive got gas and the fuel pump works. But i just went out and it started... roughly. When i would step on the gas and let off it would hold the rpms i went to for around 3 seconds, then go back to idle. I switched it off and then it wouldnt start up again...still need to check for spark.

Sounds like you may have flooded the engine. The no start and fast spinning starter is an indication of that.
