Speedo Trouble
Howdy there. I am having trouble with my Speedometer. Whenever I go over 80km/h (12:00 on the speedo) the needle just flops right over to max speed. It is real lame coz I don't know when I am speeding and I don't know how fast my car can go. (And I want to prove to my friend with his stock 01 lancer GLI that I can thrash his pansy ***) but I can do none of this if the speedo don't work.
Someone in a similar thread said this:
"Uh, I've seen this with my own eyes, if you pull the fuse for the Engine cluster and go past 100 or the 12'o clock position the needle drops on the other side, all you'd have to do it park it and rev the gas to 8K and take the Picture with both wheels standing still !
Now if the needle was steady at 180 there might still be the Photoshop factor, but it would be more believeable...
Now this sounds like my problem, but I don't know where the fuse is that they are talking about. This is my first car and I am a total n00b, so any help would be greatly appreciated. (Stock 1980 12a)

The speedo is a mechanical cable which leads straight into the tranny - it could be that either your cable is stripped where it goes into the tranny, or the cable is damaged somewhere along the line that's causing it to bind up when you get over 80kph. Try looking to be sure that the cable is as smoothly curved as possible (i.e., not kinked against anything), and as a last resort try replacement - this should fix your problem.
The tach is electrical and many folks may be confusing the two. HTH,
