Sounds & Temp

Ok so here is the deal.

I put a new-ish 12a in about 2 months ago.

It was a short block I reused my carb, intake, & RB header.

The carb is a stripped Nikki, the rats nest is removed, the shutter valve is removed, the passenger side wire harness is stripped as well.

The car has full RB exhaust, 2nd Gen coil, RB carb hat.

I replaced all the belts, hoses, plugs, wires, cap, rotor.

I think that covers it all..............

Here is the problem:

1) It runs a little warm, never quite at the 1/2 way mark but pretty darn close.

2) Under high rev WOT it is loud........

Look inside the radiator cap. If the cooling fins show buildup, have the radiator cleaned. Check the water pump belt for tension, age and slippage. Check the timing. Is the porting different than the old engine? Check for exhaust leaks, particularly around the flanges/gaskets.

The noise is from the intake. It sounds like a garbled roar.

After a long ride I think it's a fuel filter. At wot it will start to sound shitty in about 15 seconds or so. I assume the supply can't keep up with the demand.

might be, leaning out will change the sound it makes...

you might want to double check the timing too.

oh and is the thermostat new?

I'm gonna do the filter and timing this week.

The thermostat is a Mazda OEM 180 degree.

The car ran real well today, temp never creeped over 1/3.

The inside of the rad is pretty nasty, think it's time for a new one.
