MN Sound system

Anyone in the st paul area smart/willing enough to help me get some beats in my FB? I pulled the stock radio, and the stock rear speakers were blown when I got it... I'm looking to spend about $400 max to just have a decent little system I can plug my phone into to listen to some pandora. Would like to do it sometime between now and Monday night.

I was torn between posting this here and in the midwest section.. but I think more people view this section.

400 bucks won't buy you much. I paid that much for my speakers alone, never mind the amplifier and deck. EBay will be your friend here, that's where I got my front speakers, the amplifier and the deck, all at about half of retail. Still wound up costing about $1000. Then you have to factor in wiring, which generally isn't too cheap. If you piece it together it'll come out cheaper, but there are wiring kits available that will suit your needs. They run $50 and up for a decent one.

yea the internet will be your friend you can get a decent deck for about $150-250 and depending on what speakers you get you might not need a multi channel amp to power em (and later you can put one in and it will improve your system. the normal FB runs 4'' in the front and 6.5'' in the back. depending on the brand and model you buy they should be able to run off a deck. so research what the "minimum" power requirement is. dont get anything needing more than 35 or so watts min. and at the moment dont bother putting a sub in unless you have the cash to spend.

also what are you looking at for the system? what brand of speakers/deck are you looking at?.. and most importantly DID YOU LABEL THE WIRES WHEN YOU TOOK YOUR DECK OUT? i had a hell of a time trying to figure mine out since the previous owner added 6x9's to the cubby lids and tweeters to the doors... i basicaly had to rewire the whole car... wasent fun.

so let me know what your looking for and i may be able to steer you in the general direction of a good system

decent deck amazing price http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...d_KDC-148.aspx

my exact rear speakers http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...TS-G1642R.aspx

same series of 4'' for continuity http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...TS-G1043R.aspx

it comes out o $14x without shipping so that leaves you enough for a decent 4ch amp

Take note: I'm not looking to have a booming system.. just something that's near-stock but up to date.
All of those speakers will fit stock into my 83? I bought 1 set of 6.5"'s for the rear that were too deep to fit.

Which wires? I ran new speaker wire to the back, that's labeled.. Haven't pulled the fronts yet.

Anyone in MN able to help with an install?

they fit into my 83 i'v got the same rears (from my previous car if i had to buy 6.5" i'd have gotten matching JL's )

and i'v got JL audio tr400cxi in the front. and TR690TXI in my cubby lids. and a pyle 10" 150w sub in a sealed enclosure with clarion 200w

basicaly anything of a decent brand will be better than stock 80's speakers i do have to say though the placement of speakers could be better. it makes the system sound like the band is playing behind you.

the wires that were pluged into the old deck. ie red black yellow brown purple so on so forth.... unless its difrent. with a new deck it will have a plug with wires in it all you do is get some connectors and splice the right wires together after you cut the old connector off. simple if all the colors match. the 4'' in the footwell are a bitch to get at though. i ended up creasing my pannel when trying to put it back on wasent impressed.

and as for the amp thats only a 2 ch you'd be able to drive 2 speakers. or one speaker if you bridge it.

that would increase the ohm load on the amp and it would also kill any ajustability that your deck would give you. for front/rear balance. and the kenwood seems fine.

if ur not one to really crank up the volume, a head unit and a set of speakers front and rear will do u just fine. then later on u can add an external amp if u decide u need more power.

Do it once, do it right. If you need more money to get the equipment you want then just put off installing everything until you have everything. If you rush it you will only be disappointed by the results. I'm running a 300watt RMS 4 speaker system in my car with no need for a bulky, heavy sub enclosure or second amp. 5.25" components up front, 6.5" 3-ways in the rear with the amp and crossovers mounted under the storage bin frame. I've had this for 5 years and have never wanted to change it. Do it right, once.
