Sorry, but I have to start ANOTHER tire/wheel fitment thread

OK...I know there are a ton of threads out there about wheel offsets and tire sizes, but I need a little reassurance. I have an '85 GS that I've swapped over to the GSL-SE suspension front and rear. From my reading and research I determined that I could fit 16x7 wheels with 40mm offset and 205/50-16 tires, so I went ahead and ordered today (Konig Trouble wheels and Kumho Ecsta SPT tires). But I started getting worried so I went out and did some measuring, and it looks like it will be VERY close on the front (I didn't measure the rear). Can someone tell me for a fact that this combination will work without rubbing on the spring? It should clear the lower spring perch easily, but looks like it might rub on the next coil up under compression. If I get a difinitive "no" answer soon enough it may not be too late to cancel the order and keep looking. Otherwise maybe I can find some wheel spacers. How about the rear...will the 16x7-40mm - 205/50-16 combination work in the rear?

Thanks,
Rich

Cancel the order and keep the ones you have on, They look good. Why would you want 16 inch rims on your first gen? Whatever, its your car and do what you want.

Huh?? You haven't even seen my wheels! It has two old beat up Konig wheels (16x8 with 205/40-16 tires that are worn through to the belts on the inside) on the front, and stock GSL-SE wheels with Cooper 215/60-15 tires on the rear.

But thanks for the input....

Rich

16 inch rims are over kill for a first gen. I only went to 15x7's to get into a wider range of tire choices.

OK, can anyone here in the peanut gallery actually help? So far, we've got people criticizing his choice, talking about what they like better, complaining about it being too big, too small, and then announcing what size rims they want.

It's Rich's car, Rich's money, Rich's choice. Help, or STFU. Jesus.

Yes they will clear with very little room of extra space. I currently am running 16x7 Rota wheels with a 38mm offset and they clear. On a side note, I went to my friends shop and tried a set of 17x7 rims with a 40mm offset and they fit as well BUT I was going to use a small spacer for peace of mind if I buy them. If you use a 2mm spacer then it makes the rim shift to the outside edge to give you the 38mm offset.
Hope this helps

It's going to be close on the front Rich. I had some 16X7 with 38mm offset with 205/45/16
and they were fine. It might be better to run the larger on the rear and the smaller on the front unless you want to rotate then smaller all the way around.

If you do use the spacers or wheel adapters like I did, im sure you wont have any problems I have 17 by 7s on my car and they dont rub at all but of course it is a front wheel drive offset. And it is truly up to you what you do to your car Ive changed everything dealing with mine from location of the side mirrors, the color and even adding lamborghini doors let your car reflect you noone else...

I have to agree with $100T2

If Rich were to take poo and smear it on his hood and say that it added 100hp, I would go try it.

Wish I had something to add about the wheels, but I have no clue.

Thanks $100T2...that's exactly what I was thinking.

Thanks Right Hand 7 - I don't mind people giving their opinions when I'm asking for opinions, but when I'm asking a specific question like this I like to receive specific answers.

Well, I won't be spreading poo on the hood (although it would make much difference right now ), but I agree with what you're saying!

Thanks everyone...I think I'll leave the order in...if they are a tight fit I'll get some spacers.
