That is a strut insert. On our cars, the spring perch is welded onto an outer casing which bolts to the ball joint and holds the strut insert. I haven't actually put one together, but that is how I understand it.

You might want to check with the seller, but i think most of koni's inserts are adjustable on the top, usually the remove and turn body ones are for the shock format (the rear in this case) I think this is the setup i have on my seven right now, unless they made two that were similar...

You have your tokico's and your koni's mixed up. You have to compress these then turn the shaft to set these. Just installed a pair about 4 monthes ago.
well, are there two versions then? because I have konis all around on my 82, and the fronts are inserts and is adjustable via the koni ****, and the back requires removal and and turning... now i'm confused, sorry guys!

hey i finally bought some shocks and struts and got the tokico blue's and they dont have the perch for the front springs on them how hard or how much will this be to swap over from my stockers?????
help!!
help!!
The blues, and all aftermatket shocks for the front, are inserts. You have to remove the old insrets and reuse the strut assembly. The FSM and Haynes covers this, to a point.

my friend came up with the idea to re-weld the perch higher or lower depending on the application to effect the height rather then cutting the springs which can screw the spring rate up.....is this possible without messing the shock up or could i just weld the persh like a half inch lower then the stock placement to lower my car a half inch lower then it is.......
