That is a strut insert. On our cars, the spring perch is welded onto an outer casing which bolts to the ball joint and holds the strut insert. I haven't actually put one together, but that is how I understand it.

I actually just did mine. I could write up a walkthrough if you want. it's quite easy to do, and those are the exact strut inserts that I just put in.

Damn! That's a pretty good price there. Did you buy them from the same guy (like, does he have a bunch of them)? Also, how are adjustments made? Just curious.

adjustments are made via a dial on the top of the strut, so you'd pop your hood and adjust it, takes a minute max... that's actually one thing that is missing, a adjustment ****.

You might want to check with the seller, but i think most of koni's inserts are adjustable on the top, usually the remove and turn body ones are for the shock format (the rear in this case) I think this is the setup i have on my seven right now, unless they made two that were similar...

Nope, you have to remove them and compress them all the way, then turn them.

Alvin,

You have your tokico's and your koni's mixed up. You have to compress these then turn the shaft to set these. Just installed a pair about 4 monthes ago.

the Koni sports (yellow) are the ones where the adjustment is made at the top of the strut via white ****, but the koni specials (red) you compress the strut to adjust.

The blues, and all aftermatket shocks for the front, are inserts. You have to remove the old insrets and reuse the strut assembly. The FSM and Haynes covers this, to a point.

my friend came up with the idea to re-weld the perch higher or lower depending on the application to effect the height rather then cutting the springs which can screw the spring rate up.....is this possible without messing the shock up or could i just weld the persh like a half inch lower then the stock placement to lower my car a half inch lower then it is.......

I know it's getting late, but wouldn't the perch need to be higher to lower the car.
