Some more updates in project money-pit

Well the other day, I painted the firewall. I cleaned the motor, put the steering box back in and adjusted it. Next to do is remove the clutch and master cylinders and paint them and behind them too. I totally sepreated the entire underhood harness and remove the wires/plugs I dont need anymore. IE AC wiring, hot start assist, coils, and distributor igniter wiring etc. Also did a little scrubbing on the rotor housings

heres some pics of the process, keep in mind im not the best painter in the world and a firewall is a major PAIN IN THE *** to sand, primer, prep and paint. I know the paint kinda looks like poo poo so far, but Im working with it.

I didnt think orginally Id like tender blue metallic, so I played with the paint a little bit I added twice the amount of blue #6 that suppose to be in it, and added a small amount of silver pearl, just to see. I think the final paint on the car will keep the same amount of base colors but I will go a good mixture of blue pearl

That is yucky ole tender blue metallic with a mikey special blend of color matching Actually my budy at the local paint and supply place mixed the paint, I told him I wanted the same basic color, but more blue to it. So he added 2X the amount of blue #6

Wow. Looks really good. How did you sand all the rust off? By hand?

All by hand, and 80 grit sandpaper, then blow off with compressed air and sand again, and repeat etc. Then when I thought I had it all, I wiped it down with laquer thinner to prep it for paint By the way I used Epoxy primer, some thick *** mean stuff. Its tougher than nails, but doesnt like to be sanded prior to painting... But suppose to resist a lot of heat and be pretty chemical resistant... Well thats what Jim told me at the paint place, and hes been into auto paints for 22 years so I trust him ...

Unless anyone knows a way to get a DA in there to sand it, by hand was the only way I seen it

When you say you completely undid the harness, what do you mean? How did you accomplish that? Did you actually unravel all the tape and pull out the individual wires? Wow. I wanted to do the same, but just can't seem to get up the ***** to do it.

BTW, anyone know of an online schematic? I have the haynes guide, but that is only two skips short of a joke. It doesn't even have the fuse box layout (for which I don't have the cover so...) Maybe I'll start a thread for this. Nevermind

Mike that color looks close to the actual color of my car. Mine is close to tender blue, but with more blue.

Oh yeah, your turbo is nice as hell. I helped with it a lil bit

@ redwood, completely undid means to take the whole harness apart.. PIA, by the way i have 12 years experience with car electrical wiring Its a pain in the *** and takes a shitload of tape

@ghetto-rx7 Id imagine a airbrush would TAKE FOREVER
Im using a Binx #7 gun, Id say spend $250 and get one and paint it quickly..

@felix so my turbo is sweet huh? cant wait

Nice work! I painted the frame rail black, but after looking at your work, I'll take the body color all the way down on the next rex...

The color looks great, especially compared to before. Howcome your wires are just black taped and the master cyclinder(I think) is all rusty and still in there? You're gonna work those over too right?

I wish I had a garage so I could start tearing mine apart for those kinds of things. Can't wait.

You need to read the posts Quote by me, very first few sentences.

Well the other day, I painted the firewall. I cleaned the motor, put the steering box back in and adjusted it. Next to do is remove the clutch and master cylinders and paint them and behind them too. I totally sepreated the entire underhood harness and remove the wires/plugs I dont need anymore. The wiring isnt only black taped, that makes a shitload a mess if you have to get int he wiring for some reason. Its actually black taped every 8 inches, split loomed and then taped again.

Thanks for the compliment
