Some more Nikki mod questions

I am disassembling my Nikki right now, and I have some goals I'd like to achieve with it. I want to remove ALL unnecessary parts. ALL of them. I want it to function in its most basic sense, without any emissions crap or cruise control or even a choke (gasp!). Of course, I intend to make mechanical secondaries, but I want to know what I can remove and/or block off to achieve this goal. Part of the throttle linkage assembly has been disassembled and I'm going to have to guess on how to put it back together...hoping I still have all the parts at this point. So I figured, why not just boil it down to the basics? Got a Weber in there now, and it's pretty basic. I want the Nikki to be about as complex as the Weber, with the main difference in installation being the use of a return line on the Nikki. Anyone want a piece of this?

Ok, if nothing else, does anyone have a parts breakdown of this thing? I cannot seem to find any kind of detailed information on the Nikki anywhere. I need some pics, or some good diagrams, something, ANYTHING.

Do a search on carbs. There is a real good tutitorial on this with good pics. You get rid of choke, valves and everything you don't need if you are removing your rat's nest.

Doing a search on "carbs" will give me about 500 hits here. Do you know more specifically where to find said tutorial?

Let me try to rephrase this. I have the carb apart now. Not entirely, but mostly. My questions are as follows:

1. Besides the brake booster and dizzy, are any of the other vacuum parts necessary? The rats nest is gone, BTW.

2. There is a butterfly w/vacuum on the intake manifold. Can I ditch it?

3. My throttle linkages are all in pieces. I need to rebuild them, enough anyway to be able to use them again. Anyone have pics/advice?

4. There is a butterfly in the air horn. Can I ditch it?

I want to do this myself, without having to send it to anyone to be rebuilt. If anyone can help, please do so.

Looks like you jumped into a project that is over your head. Next time, do the research first assemble a game plan and review it.

You can get rid of the shutter valve, but your car will backfire upon deceleration. This is not a carburetor item. The brake booster is not a carburetor item, it comes off the intake manifold IIRC. Search the 1st gen FAQ for the mech secondary mod.

Good luck.

Ok, I realize that not all of my questions are directly carb related, but perhaps I should have said intake instead. Regardless, since I can't find decent docs on the Nikki as far as what everything is and what it does, I'm just going to order a junkyard carb and work with it. Who knows, maybe it will help me rebuild my current one. I'm still looking for really good docs on the carb, so if anyone can help with that please do. I've got a TON of ideas for how to modify it but I want to understand it fully.

Yeah, yeah, I know the drill. I've been searching for a week (in my rare spare time) but haven't found the detailed info I'm looking for. I need visuals! Diagrams, breakdowns, blowups, full technical descriptions...wait, it almost sounds like I need a factory workshop manual or something. Would all that stuff be in one?

The Haynes manual has a pretty good section in the Nikki. Start there.

Yes, I have the Haynes. You're right, it is pretty good, but not nearly detailed enough for my purposes. I guess I'm asking too much.
