So there I was...

...Watching fast and furious for the 1000th time when it hit me. I need a roof scoop. The only problem I can see is that I cant mount it up front above the windshield like on that badass eclipse. I am gonna have to mount it to the sunroof instead. Has anyone done this? What would be the coolest looking - in middle or off to one side? Should I make it functional? TIA

-Ian

Make sure you install a Motec exhaust while you're at it.

Ian, I hope yer kidden.

And if yer not, then you should know that ricism is like sexuality;
It makes most of us uncomfortable to discuss the topic, and most people prefer the "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

Gueeze- At the very least you should've come up with a need for the roof scoop first instead of asking if you should "make it functional" after the fact!

You take that Sawzall to your rex and she'll never forgive you!

you guys are right. I shouldnt use the roof scoop. Instead, I will simply put an aluninum double decker spoiler on top, right in front of the hatch.

There was a guy locally that has a functional roof scoop on his first gen. There are a couple catches though. 1. it is a rally car 2. it is an older bridgeported 4-port block and 3. the roof scoop functions as AC.

after you put on your scoop, dont forget to put on your crazy agressive body kit, but make sure you dont paint it.

I dunno about you, but I watch it when I'm depressed and need a good laugh...

.... That's assuming it's on TV. I don't own it... But there is that petty new Bling-bling version I saw at SprawlMart the other day...

I truly concidered what a 1st gen would need to become more airodynamic, the best solution I could come up with is puting new head lights in that don't have to pop up, and puting a FORMED spoiler in the back. (completely forms with the back of the car) Otherwise, the car a basicly a wedge, it'll do fine without putting holes in it.

Yeah, CP Sells those, but I'm not a huge fan of them myself...

The kit is well designed, but expensive, and I don't much like the look of sleek lights on the FB myself...

Really, the biggest improvement to aerodynamics would probably be plastic underbody covers, with a diffuser in the rear. If you look at modern cars with low drag coefficients like .26, they always have smooth underbodies. Now, as well designed as the bodies of our cars are, if you look at a top view, you can see that there is still definitely room for improvement, but you can't really do much about that.

Underbody plastics are definitely feasable though. It'd be interesting to see someone do this. Taking it to a wind tunnel would be a bit hard, but you could check differences in top speed and such.

Roof scoop does not = aerodynamics, people
It's an old rally device for A/C.
And, Ian, I, unfortunately, knew that you weren't kidding about the Eclipse hump. As long as it got your mind off those damn Camaro vents
