So I was told... (question)
I think i've seen it mentioned a few times ehre on teh forums and someone came up to me last night at a car meet saying about gutting certain hoses and pumps from my car will increase hp by like 25-30HP... I just wanted to know if this was true, and if there was any detailed instructions anywhere as to how to go about doing it?
BTW, it's been a week and my baby 85 GS is still running like a beaut
Thanks

and replacing the restrictive air filter element with a drop-in K&N filter will help a little. Not the huge, dramatic gains from a complete exhaust system, but noticeable.

Well, I already have an RB header, Costum 3" exhaust, and RB muffler...
Where can I find the info on doing these modifications? i'm not exactly swift with a wrench, so instructions would be a godsend.

I think if someone's telling you Joe Larry Lunchkit's Garage brand radiator hose will give you 10-20 HP over stock, they're pulling your leg and your wallet.
Can you be more specific with what hoses, etc. you were told to swap?

When the Search function is not Crippled anymore,
do a Search for "junyard speed shop" on the 1st Gen section for more mods.
Plus, check the archives for more good info.

My mistook.
They probably were referring to the "rat's nest", but you should only remove that when you know which ones are for emmissions and which are for proper engine performance.
there are several here who've removed it, with varying degrees of success, but I don't recall anyone claiming a 20HP gain.
In any event you're definately off to a good start with the header & muffler. There are a few guys here with used K&N filters for sale, and occasionally used ReX parts pop up on my free 'for sale' site at http://www.stuffsmart.com

One of my fellow ReX club members locally has the Bonez system and there's no percieveable performance difference between his and mine, with stock airbox and K&N filter.
If you want to be able to lift your hood and show a horsecock intake with cone filter, Bonez will work. If you prefer a stock look with stealth enhancement, K&N drop-in.
It comes down to a personal preference, I suppose.
