So I am leafing through on off my old car books.......

and I get to a section about battery, battery cable maintance. I come along to a part about the battery tray and it says....

If there is a corrosive buildup on the battery tray, it could prevent the battery from putting out all the power is capable of.

So I pulled out a couple of my newer book/car encyclopdia, and I see noting about this.

Was this disproven or something, just kinda wondering.

It also says clean the tray and spray undercoat to prevent it from happening again.

Just thougt I would share.

That's a misprint. It's gotta be terminal, not tray.

In older cars (not 7's, just cars in general) the battery sat on a metal "tray". I could see this causing a problem if the corrosion ran all the way from the terminal to the tray. Otherwise I think Pele is right, it might be referring to the battery terminals.

I don't see how the tray having corrosion could cause the battery to be weak. Until the tray simply gives away, and lets the battery fall.
Cleaning the tray is a good idea, as is coating it to prevent damage from acid, but I doubt it causes a dead battery to miraculously revive itself.

Go with a Sealed Battery like Optima or whatever your preference.
Never worry about leakage again.

- Hey man, I think my starter's blown. My car won't start.
- Did you clean the battery tray?
- Huh? Battery tra...
- DID YOU CLEAN THE BATTERY TRAY?!
- No. But I don't...
- CLEAN THE DAMN TRAY!!!

I think I'll have to integrate that into my book on how to get something started...

Then I will write chapter two on getting the party started.
