Smoke one start-up

My '79 rx7 smokes an unhealthy amount of smoke out of the exhaust when I start it up. I am wondering what would be necessary to fix this problem

Thread has been moved into the appropriate section.

As for your issue, you could be seeing worn oil control rings if the smoke has a blue color to it or if its white and smells sweet,, you could be seeing faulty coolant seals or corroded housings where the coolant seals resides.

It could also just be running very rich. This depends on how much smoke you see. My 85 smokes a tiny blue on startup. Not a ton but its noticeable. Its completely normal for that car. It clears up in a few seconds and the only smoke I see is just normal exhaust smoke as the engine runs a tad on the rich side.

The first thing you need to determine is the color, the smell, and the amount before it clears. Let us know what you come up with.

It fills up the front of the barn and hallways of the barn where it is parked, and it is more white than it is blue (blue is not really noticeable).

Yeah, that's definitely too much smoke. I think I would start with a cooling system pressure test and pressurize the system to cap pressure and see if the pressure drops at all. Does the engine run rough on its initial start of the day?

Thats what we were going to do, but we have to pick up a pressure tester. I am going to see what my coolant level is at, and then also see if it bubbles while running. It starts right up on the initial start.

I checked if the coolant bubbles, but it does not. Now I am just waiting on the pressure tester.
I was also wondering if anyone would know of someone who works on rx7's and could fix mine?

If you created a post in the regional section looking for a local RX-7 technician you will likely find one or be given advice on where to find one.
