SMOKE on fresh rebuild?
I finally started my 4port 13B today and its smoking even after 30min of idling. I was expecting some smoke on startup because of assembly but not like this. I dont think this is normal? Whats going on? Is my rebuild screwed? It idles and revs fine(did nor drive it yet) its just the smoke is starting to worry me. I did squirt some ATF in the chambers because it flooded on my first start sttempt.
Any thoughts? By the way the smoke is white and smells like oil.
Thanks, Ed

did u change the oil seal? sometimes on a rebuild, it can move out of place. if thats the case, you'll need to break it back down to fix it.
i just helped my friend fix his s5 13b.

Any chance you broke one of the metal carrier rings installing the viton oil rings? The viton are slightly harder to install than the mazda versions, and if you're inexperienced it's easy to break the soft metal ring.
Also, did you do a heavy port job? IF the port was done improperly then oil can actually build up in the intake ports and be transferred into the combustion chamber. The only fix for this is teardown and replacement of the irons in question.
Let it run a while longer...take it out and drive it to get the exhaust nice and hot, and burn off anything left. I wouldnt worry unless the smoke were excessively heavy and lasted more than an hour or 2.
Also, you should be sure that your OMP isn't the cause, by disconnnecting the OMP oil lines and let the engine run for 30 minutes with them off (put a towel underneath).
One more thing is be sure you don't have your crankcase oil system plugged off airtight...there must be a vent somewhere in the system, or the heat will cause the oil to expand and build up pressure which will overcome the oil control rings and cause smoke.
