Sleek Headlamp idea.
I was watching some classic races tonight of the GT-40 and got a good look at it's headlamps. I noticed it was basically a bucket with the lamp in place and plexi glass screwed down to the body. So i went out to the garage and looked at all the stock equptment trying to figure out a way to possibly do this with all of the stock equptment with the exclusion of plexiglass. I took the plasic surroud and mated it to the cover from the opposite side, fits great, just needs to be screwed together, revered the headlamp and stuck it in the hole, that again can be screwed down to the lip, now all that is needed is to cut away the front part of the engine bay and i really don't want to do that on a good car without knowing for a fact this will work. If someone would like to try this for themselves with an old junk body rotting away in their yard, please do, i want to see if this could potentially work. I'm assuming the plasic piece is probably going to be too tall, but if it is it could be cut down to size and angle use different lights though, just an idea, nothing more. I think sleek headlights using the huge stock round ones would look very awesome and very classic.

been done...doesn't seem that great...
Ever see the Toyota GT2000? Low beam projectors can be had for about $100 for two from hella...use these in the stock locations and mount hi-beams in the bumper somewhere...

My other idea is just to pick up some projector lights, drill holes in the plates behind where the headlamp assembly was, mount them and put limo tint over a sheet of plexiglass, then screw the plexi glass down to the header panel and fenders with wood screws. Putting my headlamps back into place is going to be about as difficult. I didn't plan on every putting them back into place.
Hmmm... it's indeed true that the GT40 is one of the most awesome machines ever build. But a seven is just a little different... The headlamps I've seen so far didnt really look the part, so I wouldn't start. The main problem is that the "buckets" would be too small. With an FC or FD the lights are much wider, making the finished sleek lights look more balanced.
I'd like to find out how dual lamps would look in the pop-up lights. But it's not easy to find small, yet affordable beams, to experiment with.

the wally world brand of round driving lights...ummmm...**** I can't remember what they;re called but they're blue-ish and are round...they're almost the exact diameter of the hella casings and if you flip the mounts backwards then you're with in 1/8 of an inch at being in the right bolt pattern...but I can't remember which lights exactly...they're one of the $30 products now I'll have to look again...

I believe the lights you're talking about are sold at wal-mart, i'll look into buying those eventually for my "sleek headlight" expirement. I'll keep you guys posted over the next few months on the outcome.
I don't really like the non-pop-up idea. I've seen it (ugly), plus it really interferes with the effectiveness of the headlights.
I like these MUCH beter, especially the 2nd one

try the sleek headlight thing....i like that idea....but i would get rid of all the pop up mechanism cuz it adds weight to the car and wire the low beams straight to the headlight stock switch and wire the high beams on the bumper to the pop up switch on the centre console

I'm definately going to give it a shot, it's going to cost me around $70 - $90 total for the lights and plexiglass, not a big deal, it'll save a few pounds and possibly even provide much better lighting at night. I'll try this out in a few months when i get some money to blow and compose a tutorial on the forum of what i did, how i did it, and about how much everything cost, i'll try to even get pictures if possible. Thanks for the support guys!

As for these in a kit: where? How muh?
I'd prefer to make something like this myself, since a kit is going to be very expensive before it arrives in Europe (shipping + taxes), but still. Very nice looking!

The kits are designed for a Miata but compatable with FBs. I don't see a very easy way of duplicating the kit unless modifcation of the stock coverers were done with fiberglass. The lifting arm of the lights also has to be cut to give it the "sleepy-eye" effect.
contact chris (user name: guru) from CP racing i think he makes one like it....he has it on his car....i don't really like the whole pop up thing....i'd rather do what "O 16581 72452 5" is doin and have a whole in one sides plexiglass connected to a pipe that feeds air straight to the intake

No, there will be two lights in each casing, one for brights and one for dims. I haven't made the plexiglass shape yet, i haven't even began this project, it will have to be larger than the metal cover of the headlight assembly to work properly, here is a picture for reference, maybe it will help

This shows the flat surface i want to mount the lights to and just above the a "shelf" where i want to screw the plexiglass down to. This will rest under the lip of the hood and could potentionally have a gap for fresh air to enter the air intake.

oh i understand....do a search theres a very detailed article on how to make these.....it was for an MR2 (from back in the day when i was an MR2 freak)....i still don't get how u plan on screwing the plexiglass in place...if i remember correctly...the guy (for the MR2) made a cardboard box of the inner casing....and then replicated it in aluminum....had a piping of some kind of hard rubber on the outer rim of the aluminum and he used that rubbber to screw the plexiglass onto.

I'm not making any sort of casing for these, i'm going to screw the stock headlight lid to the place i specifyed for a much cleaner and easy to work with surface.
