Slave Cylinder?????

Ok so in my 85, (not the one for sale)... Ive been having some hydraulic issues.... I can bleed the slave cylinder, and get 2 days out of it before it drops to the floor... its not losing any fluid, and i want to make sure their is something else i should check before i have to swap slave cylinders. Also, if i wind up having to change them, how hard is it going to be lol ( i'm used to cable clutches)... maybe im not bleeding it right? HELP!!!! lol

also, i was driving it today, and all the gauges turned off and the overheat exh light came on.... fuse?

Check to make sure the fluid isn't leaking into the rubber boot at the end of the slave cylinder. When i installed mine the little pin was in there backwards and was letting fluid leak into the boot area. Slave cylinders are real easy to replace, ive done mine twice. Bleeding the system is another thing, ive always had my dad help while i push on the peddle. I could see how it could be difficult if you were doing it alone.

Are you sure its your slave cylinder? Check under the dash, if you have fluid leaking from the pushrod for the clutch then its your master cylinder. These are a little more tricky than the slave (still not very hard though) because there isnt any room to work with under there. When I replaced mine I had to cut a deep wall socket in half because of the lack of room.

If you go get a new slave cylinder DO NOT get one from Victoria British, the housing turns to pure rust within a month, don't say I didn't warn you.

hmmm

well I have another slave cylinder in the car that was there when i bought it, but it has a bit of rust in the front, so i thought it was old. Then I looked at the one on firewall and it had some rust too, so i was like wtf.... Anyway, the brakes have alot of air in them too, but if it was leaking from the pushrod, I would be losing fluid.... both resevoirs are full to the top.....

Also... Nobody has any idea on the cluster problem i'm having?

I appreciate your help

Mine was leaking from under the dash, and I drove around pumping the clutch for about a week and my fluid level never went down. I would check it out, its worth a shot.

I got my master and slave from mazdatrix. I was planning on painting them black to reduce rusting, but the were already painted when I got them.

ok

ok when we are referring to the "clutch master cylinder" we are referring to the cylinder attached to the clutch pedal?.... I may sound stupid but we used to refer to that as the upper slave cylinder (at least thats what they called it on my ford ranger)... I'm going outside to see whats up with it now... if i loosen the bleeder and pump a bunch of times and close it, the pedal comes back for a couple of days (i know thats not the "correct way" to bleed it, but its easier this way when im by myself .... lol , i just moved here and dont know anybody here yet, at least not mechanically inclined lol...)

i had the same problem a while back... i thought it was my clutch master, but it wasnt, i bought the rebuild kit and changed it but soon after it was the same problem...so take everything apart again and rebuilt the slave cylinder and you could tell that its been warn out comparing to the parts from the kit... i rebuilt it then put it back together, did it 6 months ago and no problem, if u read the repair manual it says that if the master cylinder is bad the slave cylinder is more or likely to be bad also vice versa...so change them both...its a bitch doing it, but you gotta do what u gotta do... everything is so compact, sucks but i love my rex

argh!

Ok. I went outside, and looked under the dash. its a NEW clutch master, its too clean to be old (ive only had the car for a month or two) .... No leakage anywhere... when i release the bleeder, it has excellent pressure... so im thinking it has to be the slave... i bled it again, and got 20 pumps out of it before it was gone again..... should i buy a rebuild kit, or just replace the slave cylinder?

also... i replaced the fuse on the dash "meter back" and it worked for about 10 minutes, then popped the next 8 fuses i put in there after about 10 seconds..... so looks like i have an electrical gremlin
