Yes.. the ap diaphram is new, i'm not too worried about the gasket sealer.. It was the best I could find and is only a temporary solution until i can get a replacement base at a junk yard..

yeah it was the float level... I pulled the air horn off and the fuel was baerly above the jets so the AP wasn't able to get any fuel.. I tweaked the floats a little bit and now the fuel sits at about 3/4 so I think that should take care of it. The car started up almost immediately and overall it seems to work a lot better now. We will see how it starts up tomorrow morning cold... Now i just have to fine tune the AP.

You need to redo the float settings. Pull off the airhorn and do it per the manual. Even on an incline, the level should be high enough to feed the AP. Glad you got it figured out.

yay. all seems well now! Got the AP working like a charm! Thanks for all your help carl and others!

One last question / problem i noticed.. The car seems to backfire a lot more than it used to.. It would only backfire above 6K on decel and only a few times.. Now it seems that it backfires anytime on decel above 4K and a lot, very rythmic.. pop..pop..pop..pop..pop .

Anything I can do to make that better? One thing i did while i had the carb off was to cap off the shudder valve, dunno if that'd make a difference..

Make sure the shutter is staying closed. More likely is that you have an exhaust leak, causing the backfire.
