side view windows

Done a few mods and starting prep work for painting.. my driver side power window is loose. before i took of the inside panel, i was gonna take mirror of and prep it for painting... But, i see that i can barely get to it, or i'll find a way to tighten the nuts on the window..i dont dare take it off cause it looks like i would have a hell of a time trying to get it on. theres not much room inside there to do anything.. if anyone has any tips or done anything with this be cool... if not ill try and tighten it up and mask things best i can, and paint it in place..
thxs subs.. as you see im a motorcycle guy..80 xs1100 rocks

not to confuse anyone, but the problem is the side view mirrors inside the door.

okay i've been trying to remove my side mirrors (power) on my 85 gsl to sell because im going with vitaoni mirrors.....first i tried to loosen the nuts on the inside of the door panel, but it seems that its not a bolt....its actually a fixed type of nut that's actually welded to the metal ??? so i am pretty sure to remove them, you first have to remove the 2 screws on the bottom of the mirror (bottom part under the actual mirror glass). that should allow you to remove the top part of the mirror, leaving its "pedestal" still on the car....i assume there will be two bolts on the inside of the pedistal wehre it actually mounts to the door. i personally haven't been able to even remove the first two screws...they are completely stripped or something cuz i can't remove even 1.

sorry for the long reply i just wanted to make sure u understand what im talking about since im not too sure i understand exactly what you are talking about

^^^ bingo, and in order to not strip out the screws use a ratchet with a phillips socket, more leverage is a good thing!

The mirror is just kind of a puzzle of one piece on another in order to hide the bolts holding it all together. Its pretty simple once you get started.

well, just what i was worried about. i put a rachet on one of the screws and twisted it off.. now more soaking with pb blaster and drill a 7/64 hole and try to a easy out.. i dont like it! if the nut on the inside is welded good might have to tap it. its the one fathest away and harder to get to. if the nut on the inside breaks free will be a bitch to try and put a nut on a new screw..ohh well gonna have a couple beers to steady my hand for drilling hehe

To properly remove the side mirror screws use one of these methods:

A.)
B.)
C.)

Pick the best method for your situation, and use plenty of beer. Good luck!

Sorry, no good advice from me, you are at the point where you need to pray to God that the little bastard will cooperate. Good luck
