Should I buy this mikuni 44phh intake/carb? (pictures)
Here is my question of the day... This is a mikuni 44phh the guy is selling it for 300 Canadian and it does not have a filter or air horns so I am kinda hesitant. He also will only take a money order and won't accept paypal... What do you guys think? Heres a couple pictures of the setup, do you guys think it would be hard to sandblast/powdercoat this setup or something? It looks kinda old and stuff, also notice the one butterfly looks to be deteriated...
Thanks
Thanks
Well, $300 sound a little high, but it does come with a rusted out OMP, so that might be a hell of a deal!! (just kidding)
In all seriousness, I wouldn't think the slight corrosion on the butterfly will cause any problems. You could polish that up a bit, but it's on the downstream side, so shouldn't affect performance at all. The manifold looks in good condition and has the brake booster vacuum lead, so looks like a bolt-on installation.
The airbox is available from Racing Beat for less than $100, so I wouldn't make that a limitation on the purchase, either. If you have a 4-port 12a and can tune a carb, I would think this would add a lot of horsepower for not much money. The problem will be tuning it and finding parts if you can't get it tuned and running with what it's got.
Good luck,

Bang for the buck it is a good deal. With that carb/manifold setup and your Rb exhaust you will be putting out 142hp. I have the factory manual for that and the
specs for jetting for the 12a. there are still many parts available for the mikunis.
www.rebelloracing.com in Ca is one and i know there are others. It is a very simple carb in design and has great throttle response. Even keeping your foot out of it on highway driving i used to get 22-24mpg. rx7doctor

The mikuni is a fun carb, very simple to work on, and a good upgrade. If it would support a bridgeport, I would still be using it instead of the holley I have.
The guy selling this sold me a holley for $200. I thought the price was steep and the carb looked very old. I tested iy on my buddies streetported 13b and it worked flawlessly, much better then his new out of the box $400 holley in need of tuning parts to get it to this point. This is going on a camden project and it has run well on a previous camden before. Sooooo, I got a deal. This guy also sold my buddy a used 13b streetport "he" rebuilt years ago, (owner smashed the car up) and this engine revv'ed beautifully with a nice wide powerband. This mikuni setup came off "that" engine, my buddy (silly fool) didn't buy it becasue he wanted to try and run efi and went holley in the end instead. I would say "buy it" and you can definitely trust him.

Here is another source for the filter, they may have a greater selection.
