Short Throw Shifter

Does any one here have a short shifter setup on their car? If so where did you get it or will a second gen ss fit the first gen tranny?

i just cut 2" off the top because i was not about to pay that amount for one, and i wanted it shorter. its alittle notchy, but its livable.

would anyone care to elaborate on that? i keep hearing that simply cutting some of teh shifter off, thus making it shorter, is not a true short throw shifter. Since your making it shorter, the throws are in turn shorter aren't they? Why does the fulcrum have to be in a different spot for it to be a true short throw? I'm not trying to insult anyone, just curious as I wanna get one but don't have the cash for one yet.

A SHORT THROW shifter changes the pivot point,to shorten the shift..

A SHORT SHIFTER is some ghetto rigged **** cut down to look like a short shifter..

Regardless, the shift throw distance is still shortened from stock. It takes less travel, but a little more effort, to shift. Well, a little more effort if you got boney mouse wrists...I didn't notice an increase in effort, but physics says it must be so...

A true short-throw feels like a joystickm with 2" throws.
I didn't like it.

true, but if i have to pay 195 to call it a "short throw shifter" than i guess ill have my ghetto rigged shifter. reguardless, its a shorter throw, but most importantly, when im shifting softly, my arm lays completely level while my elbow is on the center console. its comfortable and thats what matters. when i find one for under $75 i might consider it, but mine is fine for me the way it is.

ok, my question is, why would you waste all that money on something when the same result, short distance between shifts, can be achieved with a sawzall?

it actually is different, even though not by much. a short throw shifter actually changes the pivot points making it take less distance to move between gears.

a short shifter is just what it says, and short shifter, and ill admit, mine is a little notchy, and i do change my shift **** back to stock when i autox and drag race because it sits up higher and it easier to throw into gear.

point is... yea theres a difference, small one, but a difference, i just dotn see paying all that money for the name "short throw shifter"

Exactly....with that kind of money, you should step up to a quality fuel pump like the Mallory Comp140 and get real results you can measure on a dragstrip....

There is a big difference between the two types. Own a few different ones and you will see. I have modified multiple shifters and owned multiple short throw shifters - in multiple types and models of cars. I have 3 shifters right now for my FB - for different types and places of driving.

It is not a mod for hp. It won't magically make you shift better or faster. It is simply "feel".

Wont the shifter sit taller in the car using Mazdatrix shortshift by the amount they added between the pivot *****. Think about it and then look at it and you will see what i mean.

Why does everyone still belive that the end goal is different between the $200 shifter and the angle grinder special??

Every time this argument comes up the lecture I had in my high school Physics class on vectors pops back into my head. Am I the only who payed attention in that damn class? Somebody please explain HOW there can be a differance between the two "type" of short shiffters.

yea, i'm still confused on how that can be different, if you look at the vectors its achieving the same goal. Whatever
