Short Stroke Struts?

Hey hows it going?
I was wondering if anyone has ever converted to a short stroke strut setup on their fb? My car is specifically a 1985 rx7 gs. I just put in some coilovers and am looking to section my strut housing to use shorter stroke struts. Does anyone know of any struts that will fit in our strut housings?

thanks!!

What kind of coilovers are you using? I'm not really sure I understand the question, why would you want a shorter stroke? Are you not able to lower the car enough with the coilovers? I guess, like I said, I don't understand the question. lol...

i looked into this and compared to all the toyotas the rx7 is short stroke. if you need to go shorter, i think it was koni that had a 330mm? stock FB is 345mm, ae86 is 400+

racing beat used to sell a new strut tower that was taller too...

umm i have some setup i put together myself. (3.5" sleeve with 5" springs) welded perch at 4.5" from the top of the tube. The adjusting perch on the sleeve at full slam gives me a measurement of about 24.5" from the floor to the bottom of the fender (1 finger between wheel and fender). The thing is at full slam there is only like a few inches of suspension travel left. I want some more length of the piston to play with instead of it almost bottomed out. Hope that makes sense! Oh and im running gr-2 struts.. (gotta upgrade!)

Thanks for the info j9fd3s.. would you happen to know if there are even shorter struts than koni? I was planning on going for the mr2 style illuminas from respeed. Does anyone know if those are a shorter length than the stock rx7 struts? Ill look more into this thanks guys!

Billy would be the guy to ask. You can PM him, I believe his new screen name is Re-speed.com

If I understand your situation correctly, I believe what you'll be wanting is to locate the perch lower on the strut tube, then use a 7 or 8 inch spring with it. I can have my car lowered to within 1/4 inch of the tire, and still have lots of travel left...

the aw111 mr2 struts are a 345mm body, the same as the stocker, which is why we use em.

the sw20 mr2 is like 360mm, it might fit, but its longer!

the koni is 331mm, they might have something shorter, its a big catalog.

bilstein might have something too, but that catalog makes my head hurt

racing beat moves the upper shock mount UP in the car...

but yeah i can go about 23" on mine (205/50/15's) and travel is looking pretty short

i settled on just replacing the bz1086 illuminas with new ones. i'm running GC camber plates, and they destroyed the old struts (need to post pics), i looked at everything else and decided i'd rather drive the car then spend the $50 savings and 6 months to try and get some other strut to fit (the AGX's are cheaper, and are stiffer too)

my car is an old pro7 car, so in addition to the bz1086's, its got GC camber plates, and coil overs with i think 7" 350lbs springs, dont hold it against me if they are 8" long
