My 81 has no taillights, side marker lights, and no headlight retractor action.
Headlights come on and go up but not down. I found a melted fuse and fuse block. My questions are, is there anyone who had this prob before who can help, any ideas how i might fixit? I can only think of the cost of an electrician and cost of new body if electrician is too much, which they prob will. anyone re-wired their fuse block?

 

I have a '79 with the same problem, keeps on blowing the fuse as soon as the lights go up. Leaving me without tail lights, side lights etc..

Would be nice to know how to fix it, I am going to have a bit of a play with it tonight.

I have tried to follow it but without removing the dash its quite impossible. I got an auto electricians quote of 350 just to take off dash and find prob. That dosnt include fixin it. I know someone else had this prob and fixed it on ther own. I have even thought of Painless Wiring Systems as an alternitive. Still alot but cheaper i think.

 

I was having a bit of a play with this last night. The tail lights are working fine for me until I turn on the headlights, thats when the fuse blows and only the hibeams work

 

Try the search button for blown fuse on headlights like this:

You may have a short or bad grounding.

 

Ok, did my long hard research and found that there is a wire underneath the gear stick boot. From memory there is a blue/black and a black one that look like they should be joined.

Simply unplug them and the tail lights will stop shorting out.


Im pretty sure I found the answer to this somewhere on this forum, but I cant remember who posted it, but credit given to them anyways.
