shifter vibrates above 60mph

My shifter vibrates as soon as I reach 60mph. All my mounts are suspension fine, according to my mechanic. I was told by many mazda specialist that my u-joints from my drive shaft are worn out. I have to get a new rebuilt shaft or remove mine and take it to the shop so they can install replaceable u-joints. My question to you is, I have an extra shaft but don't know what year it came off. Is there a marking on the shaft that tells me what year it came off from. I heard that from 83-85 the shafts are the same from a 12a and 13b. Is that true. I think $240.00 for a new shaft at Mazdatrixx is to expensive. All they do is change the u-joints and use the same rod from a used shaft, right. I have a shop that will replace my old u-joints and balance the shaft for $100.00. Can I go this route?

If it is just your U-joints you can do this yourself at home. If I remember right it is either a 10mm or 8mm wrench. New u - joints and a hammer to knock the old ones out. No need in buying a new shaft if it is just the u - joints. $100 to have it done is a bit steep IMO!

Unbalanced tires can cause it also. Did on mine anyways.

Your transmission mounts may be shot also. You need to do a little investigating before throwing $at it.
