Wiring for a TII in a 1st gen...

all emmisions excluded, i understand that the ecu basically needs to be connected to the : fuel pump, AFM, throttle position sensor, ignition coils, and the injectors. can someone help me fill in the blanks? im going to be hooking some ECU, maybe a stand alone. im trying to get a better understanding of it all.

If you run an aftermarket ECU you'll be using a MAP sensor instead of an AFM.

Coolant temp sensor, intake air temp, and crank angle sensor rather than coils.

Dedicate some time to searching around.

well to be more helpful you should figure out what your gunna do, ECU wise. to hook the stock one up you use a second gen wiring diagram and wire it up. Grab a fc harness and basically remake it to what you need to fit it to your car. Or if you go stand alone you can forget about alot of the stock stuff and just run what the ecu need to function correctly. either way find out what you wanna do and study up on the ecu you choose.

btw crank angle sensor lets the ecu see where the motor is at timing degree wise and adjustis timing accordingly, ecu sends signal to coils and fires the plugs.

hope this helps you out somewhat lol

yeah, it does. thanks. so if i was going stand alone, does what i buy come with what i need to connect the ecu to what it needs to fuction correctly? do i have to get my own wires and clips and whatnot?

i dont know of any plug and play harness for the first gen for a haltech. normally id just get a flying lead harness. basically the connecter with all the color coded wires same length, find which wire you need lay it out and cut to fit and solder etc etc.

once again what comes with the ecu depends what you get and if you get a kit or something along the lines of that. the ecu i "had" used all the stock turbo 2 sensors except a MAP ( manifold absolute pressure) sensor, and a modified crankangle sensor.

I did mine the most correct way by taking the whole friggin wiring harness from the donor T II and put the whole thing in the GSL SE.

It was tricky around the dash and gauges but was worth it to have all the correct wires going to the correct sensors. If you don't have the whole car, this isn't possible. I would still recommend this to all thinking of doing the project.

My two cents.

That's what I did, no problems with it at all. I believe you could do the same thing and just not install the emissions components. Look over in the 2nd gen section to determine what you could omit from the wiring. If you get a donor car you can do it for almost no cost. I got the engine, tranny, ecu, knock box, wiring, electrical components for $400, parted the car, then sold it for $150. The wiring diagrams are in the link DF gave you and it's also in the first gen FAQ.
