three bolts holding the shifter in is all you need to remove. shifter will wiggle straight up and out

nope. try pulling it towards the drivers side. I believe the clip that holds it into the shifter bushing is on that side.

I agree with Wmelon. I have been taking mine in and out for the last week. I blew a tranny at the race track on Saturday and replaced it with a bad tranny. The spares at home needed shifters shuffled around. Just try pushing it to one side and pulling hard. With the side plate off, you should be able to see the spring holding it in place. Try pulling or pushing it to one side while pulling on the shifter. Make sure the spring is not broken when you put the shifter back in. I am going to post directions for pulling of the remote shifter and replacing the spring soon. I got a bunch of picture when I did it to two trannies this weekend. Fairly simple, but FSM isn't quite specific enough.

Good Luck

Just grab the **** and give it a sharp upward yank, watch out for your teeth. There is wire spring that, kinda like a big paperclip, that snaps over the lower ball of the shifter. This what you feel when you shift to to the right for the 5th/reverse gate. The spring pushes the shifter back to the center/middle gate.
