shifter q's

i just got my shifter parts today, and since my rx-7 is being changed from an automatic, I have no idea what parts are supposed to be aragnged as....

basically heres one i'm trying to figure out right now. Isnt there something that keeps the top of the boot on the shifter (by the shift ****)?

Also is there some way to dismantle the shifter to replace some of the boots?

The boot is held on with a metal ring. The boot sort of slides into this ring, which is used to "lock" the shift **** in place.

Hmm. Two places, either call Mazdatrix or call a dealer. On the other hand, someone might have a used one lying about OR you could go to a junk yard. Take your pick.

I think I have one. You are talking about the post-'80 shifter, right? I grabbed a shift **** at an all you can carry for $25 day at the junkyard thinking it would fit my RX4, but no such luck. Let me look for it and I'll PM you if I find it. -WG

please let me know if you find one wankleguy, this is for an 85 GS. Junk yards a quite a drive from where I live. (the good ones anyway)

Still how do I change the metal disc and the other boots on the shifter itself? its seems like something would unscrew... i dont know what.

You have to just pull the boot off. I spray WD40 on the shift lever, then work the boot over the lip and then it slides off.

hornbm,
I just spent about 20 minutes looking through boxes of parts, and came up empty. Sorry to get your hopes up, I know I have one SOMEWHERE dammit. Good luck finding one, though. -WG
