shift linkage

my shifter keeps popping out of my transmission. my mechanic says that i need a new shift linkage. i have no idea where to get one. Napa auto parts doesnt carry them, neither does carquest. i called the dealership but they have like 40 parts that go with the shifter and when i say i need a linkage, they give me the run around, like im gonna spend mad cash on other parts that i dont need. the salvage yards around me dont even have my car. so any suggestions?

There is no shift linkage, there are shifter bushings. If they have been gone for a while, sometimes the shifter itself needs replacing due to gaulling caused by the alignment pin.

It was my understanding that popping out of gear like that was a sign of worn synchros... You might try running a 50/50 mix of gear lube/ATF. That can free up the synchros in a lot of cases. Good luck.
