Pre-78 Non-USA RX-7s came standard with the Driver's Side Only hood-mirror. 78 and 79 date of origin (79 US Model Year aka SA22C5XXXX) have a drivers side only door mirror. (I have yet to learn if the passenger mirror was even an availible option at the time.

Those aren't factory. The factory J-spec SA's had more squarish mirrors. I've got a video that shows the "new" RX-7, and it's got mirrors mounted on the fenders. They're actually quite effective. Most race cars have them mounted up there so to avoid extra head movement of the driver, and so he/she can keep they're eye on what's in front of them.

my opinion is, these mirrors look sexy as hell in person. here are a couple pics of a japanese savanna Rx-7 that was at sevenstock yesterdayclick the pic to see a larger better picture)

~Steve

off of topic, there were some really awesome FB's there at sevenstock. but i also saw some really horid ones. i mean, i would be embaressed to park my car with all the others. i would have just parked on a side street or something. no disrespect to this owner, but this is what i'm talking about:

dude, dont know who's "horid 7" that is but man, maybe he has like 2k dropped in the engine man, cant judge someones car by the way it looks, maybe he gets it painted tomarrow, who knows. just wanted to defend that guy because i have about 1k in my engine so far and dont see why people rag on the way my car LOOKS, i really dont care but it gets old, my car is all go, no show. sooner or later it will be show n go.

who cares about the condition. SS is an annual meet and not really a car show. Yes, there is a car show but its up to the owner to participate or not. I go there to have fun and to show support. I was present in my chiquita sponsored RX-3. FB was at home resting from the JCC

Opinion of the mirrors ? Let me say that if 7's had always retained SA bumpers and / or came with those hood mirrors, i would have never even considered owning an RX-7.

Hey Guys

I also attended JCCS and had a blast!

Those mirrors are NOT mazda mirrors

Those are toyota mirrors.

That or all the Celica owners on JCCS swapped to hood mounted SA mirrors....

Have pics. Will post later

I'm thinking about putting the mirrors there on my FB, i think it brings out the "old school" in our cars. I really like the way they look, and you don't have to look so far to the left or the right to look at the mirrors, so therefor it seems for safe and logical, in like Japan and places like that the roads and stuff are small, tons of people walking and driving in the street it is safer because you are still glancing at the road ahead w/ your prferial vision if someone walks out if front of you you are still glancing ahead of you, so yeah.

Was your car a 1978 or 79 production?

Yep,I got a pic of that SA.One of my favorite 1st gens there.

I wouldnt critique anyones car, simply because mine once looked like that too(except the fart can!)That old car could just be the beginning of a great project.Kinda like the beater that RXTuner is working on.
The only car Id pass judgement on was the rotarypolluter 2nd gen with the straight exhaust.Frickin' beat to hell,no dashboard, obviously no pride in the vehicle.

I do not know about anyone else but mirrors on the quarter panels are a pain to look through. I have a 63 comet with mirrors there, they suck as far as functionality goes.

Those are not original. When i bought my Sa in Japan back in 1987 they had different mirrors on it. They might be from a Z..
