shift lights

since drag season is coming up.. ive been looking around at shift lights. i dont really want this hugh monster tach on my dash, but a light would be nice.

has anyone used these before, or what do you think/how hard would it be to hook up? i know it goes on the "pills" but could you use this?

not sure exactly the light they are talking about.

what i REALLY wanted was a led in the console between the stock tach and the speedo that lights up when the rpm's get there.but i would be able to adjust it. but i dont know of anything to adjust it with is it even possible?

Summit sells one for $40 that I have in one of my cars. It's completely functional, and adjustable without pills (there's a dial on it). I'd recommend taking a look for it. I'm pretty sure it's made by Proform.

You can just hook up a shift light to your the wire that causes your buzzer to go off when you redline it.

thats what i was thinking, but i want there to be an adjustment with a dial or something.

ill probably go with the light and the pills, i just thought it would be helpfull to set it at 2500 in the mornings when its cold, and 7k for drag racing, and so on.. but ill probably just go with that.

I'm running the Autometer Shiftlight currently and I'm about to order a Adj-a-chip pill (0-12,000rpm). The Shift Light works great and with only three wires to hook up, it's cake work to install.

That's exactly what I did. There's actually a pot in the tacho circuit board that allows adjustment of the over-rev buzzer so yes you can adjust it. If you're handy with a soldering iron you could even run some wires out and mount a new pot and dial somewhere in the dash.

Mine...

It's pretty easy. You just take the buzzer wires and run them to an led instead. Make sure to use an approriate resistor so you don't burn it out.

If you want to be able to adjust it from the dash, you'd need to remove the potentiometer from the circuit board, solder a couple of wires and run them out to a new pot mounted in the dash.
