Shift **** suggestions

What are you guys replacing your shift **** with? Mine has the common broken plastic top showing the gears. There's a cool one in Victoria British catalog that says
RX7 on top, might get it if anyone can tell me how to get the **** off. Any other suggestions?

the **** is just threaded on. Turn in counterclockwise to get it off.

I'm using a stock shifter ****.

Yep, mine's like that only the plastic gear indicator on top is broke in half. I wonder if I could just get that part from the dealer?

Not likely. You'd probably have to order the whole ****. Most 2nd gens had this style ****.

I could send you one from my spare. It only takes a li'l drop of glue to hold it in place.

My spare is painted maroon, but the color match is godawful so I'll never use it.

I tried to get one ordered about a year ago, but his machinist was being a moron, and he finaally gave up and gave me a hat for free.

Anyone else interesed in getting one of these? If we get a few together, I know he'll make us some.

i got a carbon fiber looking relpacement at a local auto store for like $15. i don't care for the carbon fiber(it's starting to chip) but the shape is fantastic and fits my hand perfectly. heck, i'll probably just go ahead and scrape the rest of the paint off... then it'll be glossy black

Ah, a clearcoated spun shift ****.

Mebbe I should make some of these for 1st and 2nd gens, as they seem to have identical thread patterns...

I'd buy one.... Make sure you do the brake handles as well

Or we could convince Bob to to some for 1st gens and sell them thru your site....

ooh, a matching brake handle would look great

The problem with metal ***** is they're hot in summer and cold in winter, but they do look good don't they?

I'm having them make a flat area around the threads so once it's screwed on it sits against the metal 'collar' on the shifter.

The machine shop is promising me a quote today.

the RX-7 part would be tricky, as (a) they'd hafta engrave into a spherical surface, and (b) the **** would hafta screw down to just the right spot for the engraving to not look crooked.

well the first machine shop called back saying they can't do spherical after all, but referred me to another one. I'll keep you posted

faxing them 'plans' now...

...looking at $3 for the clearcoating per ****, assuming I make 50 of 'em

(in the pic above, the one on the left is clearcoated whereas the 'pointy' looking one on the right isn't - in person it makes the thing look more like a ferrari shift **** and less like a hospital doorknob)
