People have put in what i believe they call a "dogbox".

This is an extremely expensive option that only the hardcore of racers put in. I believe Norwegian Rotary has one in his 20B race car. And few others have them

I recall reading something like 5g just for the tranny, plus all the custom work of bolting it up and mounting it etc, which for most of us is a multiple of what the car cost in the first place.

 

I think that a DCGB, Dual Clutch Gear Box, which is electrically controlled, could be used this way. In fact, I think they already are.

hks had a 13brew 6 speed sequential. I was worth more than both your kidneys

 

The first generation RX-7 was available with a sequential gearbox from the factory - a 3 speed automatic, and for 1984-85, a 4 speed automatic. It could be shifted manually or automatically.

If you want a manual gearbox gearbox which can be shifted sequentially, just go buy a new Ferrari.

 

Hewland makes a variety of sequentials for different applications and you could probably get one of theirs to work. But as stated in this thread, they are enormously expensive.

Edit2: There is also a company called Ikeya that makes shifters that convert a standard H-pattern shifter to a sequential movement, but from what I've seen the results are average at best.

Now it could be I'm retarded(sure hope not) but i see a few things wrong with this post so I will try to be informative.

An automatic gearbox is NOT a manual, in any way shape or form.

A electronically controlled gearbox (similar to ferrari or audis or even some peugoets) are sometimes automatics, and sometimes manual sequantial gearboxes. I think as bliffle stated these are usually the DCDG or whatever. For example, a dodge charger is an automatic you can tell when to shift, but you still get an automatic like response, where as an aston martin vanquish is a electronically controlled manual sequential, still slower response and a yamaha r1 (or any street bike) is a sequentiel, very fast response

A perfect example of a sequential gearbox is a motorcycle.

 

Yep. Any manu-mated automatic still has a planetary gearset, which is slow (unless you put a shiftkit in it where it turns jerky instead) and saps power through the fluid coupling.

Lol, on the link with the videos, the RACE(LANCER EVO) one (2nd from last row, on the left) has an FD parked on the inside of the track halfway through. How I spotted that I don't know.

I have seen other cars on HOT VERSION where Orido and Tsuchiya were impressed with the seq operation.....
I was impressed enough to enquire about the cost....1500ish AUS dollars
but i think they would only suit FD boxes, so wouldnt suit me anyways, again dont quote me.....

Not gonna lie, i would love to have a seq box but would NEVER be able to justify the cost, especially on a cheap car lol
