How are the FC seats uncomfortable? I love the bolsters and find that in spite of the lack of adjustable headrests, etc - they are far more comfortable than the stock FB seats.
I imagine this is just a case of differing opinions?

my dad has a fc, and we both agree my seats are FAR more comfortable.
at an autox a while back, me and a friend with a fc switched to see what each others cars were like. he has a racing harness, and i couldnt stand it because it had to go around the seat instead of going over and through the headrest. it sucked.

Ohhh, my 2nd gen seats are not TII seats, they are not as nice as yours Pratch ! I know TII black leather seats would be cool and confortable in my rx7. How about racing seats ? I work for a speed shop, i could get a pair of sparco or momo or even g-force for cheap.

edit: I didn't notice that you already had FC seats.
Oh, and BTW, you're on crack if you think that the 1st gen seats are more comfortable than the FC ones.

I've been using pretty much all seats by now...
My first car was a 1984 FB, in Europe these all had uprated suspension and brakes from the GSL-SE, but not the engine. They also had the interior from it apart from the seats. (so the dash etc) Seats were much like the FC seats we got later on.
Anyway, those things were comfortable. I now have a 1982 car (Mariah Mode one) I don't like the 81-83 seats very much, and the car had FC seats in there that were much better (not the ones on the pics above, we had them with removable headrest, not solid). I now have FD seats in, that were custom trimmed in red/black.
As for judgement: IT DEPENDS!!!
I'm not too tall, and my wheight is only 60kg (I think that's 120 pounds???). Now then the FD seats are perfect! The are extremely comfortable, even on very long trips. However if you have a fat *** don't buy them at all. They might be too narrow.
Then the FC seats must be perfect.
Aftermarket sportsseats will be pricy if you want good ones, a rigid, not foldable seat might be very good for racing, but remember you are using them or a different task, and then they might be not so comfortable without declining back etc...
So it really all depends on your size, and preferences...
Oh, and btw, putting FD seats in an SA/FB is not an easy task!!! I've done it, so I know from my own experience!

What do you have to do to fit FD seats into an FB? Is it like you have to pound the bottom out of them or do you fab them up? Just wondering because I would love to have FD seats in my FB. Later.

not too bad. On the out side you can use the miata rails, on the inside you have to get a little creative. I used the rx7 rail on the inside drivers seat and drilled a hole through the front channel and a hole through the floor and used washers (redneck). On the passanger seat, the transmission tunnel rises, so I just mounted the passanger seat inside directly to the floor in the full back position. Passengers dont need to adjust their seats anyway....
Over all not too bad. I couldnt find any pics at work, I'll check at the house or take some tonight.

Absolute Power is Awesome
The angle of the inside passenger rail must be a real bear to work with if you're not using an Rx-7 seat. The cool thing about 2nd gen seats is that they have the same angle in the rail.

The car is in "upgrade" mode right now. I pulled the tranny and put in an .80 overdrive and am regearing to 3.636's. Also putting the whiteface guages on and putting in a new steering box while it down.....
