Schuck's don't know Schitt.

So my car doesnt start up any more, and i'm pretty sure the reason why is the battery.

The battery is old. Its crappy. It has red juice leaking from the side. I clean it off, and a week later its corroded over. I have to clean the terminals regularly.

It finally dies, so i take it over to schucks to test.

I put it up on the counter, *crash*, corrosion falls off at all angles. I say i need to get the battery tested (i'm broke so if it will work ill keep it).

He tests it with this little doohicky, presses lots of buttons, and says "nope, its perfect".

I look at him, and realize he's being serious. He scrapes the juice and corrosion off the top to try to find a manufacturers date, but fails to find one, more than likely it was corroded off. "nope, looks just fine to me."

I say, "ok then. THank you very much".

I go home, and take the battery out of my dad's 69 ford 250, and put it in my rex. Voila, fires RIGHT up.

So tomorrow i go to the store and buy an optima red top.

Thats my story for the evening kids!

Good choice!

You're right about the schuck's thing though. I only go there to buy parts, and I never let them tell me what to buy. Ever. Period.

Nice man. I was gonna get a red top too, but I was a few green backs short, so I got the Die Hard. Although, Ive had to buy two of them now, so I couldve bought a red top and a half by now. The first one had a hole punched in the side of it accidently...ALWAYS use a battery tie down .

Geoff, have you checked the water level in the batt? It might just need water and a charge.

Could have been the corrosion interfering with the amperage. It also could have just been drained. If you still have problems, get the alternator checked out. I've tested 8-9 year old batteries and had them still show good, so don't always assume an old dirty battery is bad, just because it is old and dirty.

What do you expect from salespeople who have to be re-trained NOT to ask "do you want fries with that?"

There is no way that thing could still be good. THe top seal is cracked and red battery acid is dripping out the side of it...

I took it out, and underneath the battery holder was a thick sticky layer of redness.

I'm cleaning it all out now, and putting in my red top.

Battery acid isn't red, but if it is cracked it should be replaced. I manage an auto parts store and I see so many people come in wanting a new battery when their old one is just low due to an alternator or starter problem. That is why we try to test them first. If they used a handheld tester it wasn't accurate. You need to put a draw test on them. Maybe he was new and shouldn't have been testing it for you. We don't have any Schucks around here but my Bro-in-law calls them Schmucks so maybe they just are that bad.
