MY 82 HAS A UNIQUE QUIRK. WHEN I SHUT
HER DOWN I HEAR A GUN SHOT. SUGGESTIONS.

 

Mine used to do that i just let it cool down before i shut it off.

I got mine to do that once, I revved it up to 6-7k and shut it off at climax and when it got back to about 500-1k (I was half outa the car by then) it made such a loud boom I thought I blew my muffler clear into the neighboors yard, people even came outa the house thinking it was a gunshot freaked me out!

 

Good possibility that it is running too rich. Tune it up, including the carb. Make sure the mixture setting is correct. Make sure that you have no exhaust leaks. I think that will probably cure it. It did for me anyway.

Wow... I only rarely get small quiet pops when I turn off my engine, lol...

 

got that once racing and my main power wire shortly came disconected,was at about 5g then BAAAANNNG,oh was that scarey,dont know what id do if it did it all the time when i shut it off.probably would park down the street.

 

HeHe, my 79" would do that when it wasn't warmed up all the way when i drove off in it. It would give a nice KABLOOEY!! when ever i shifted past 2500 rpm...lol
