sandblasting box

i just bought myself a small sand blaster and now i need to make a sealed box to use it in..

has anyone made one here??

im thinking of using an old "largish" sink with a hinged and sealed perspex lid (so i can see what im doing), 2 holes cut in the front with some strong rubber gloves glued in..
im not sure if i should have a bucket under the drain hole to colect the garnet or seal it off and have the garnet in the bottom of the sink for the pic up??

anyone got ideas?
thanks
mick

WOw thats freaky, Im in the middle of making a cabinet too! Out of presswood and 2x4's. Itll be big enough to fit a rear axle housing in. The toilet flanges are perfect to mount the gloves on.

Heres a good reference.

I need a box big enough to put a car it lol. At my old job I did alot of media and sand blasting. The media was fine because it was in a box. But we used sand outside on big peices like frames. Man that crap gets everywhere you end up going home as a human sandbox...

Ok here is a sugestion...

Go to a sheet metal fab shop and give them the dimensions you want and have them fab the box that you want, with a lid. Don't have them attache any of it just build the box and the lid with the view hole and glove and wand holes cut in it. The you take it home and Solder all the inside seams, and add the gloves and hinges , and locks and seals that you need and you are good to go.

The sand won't escape and you can see what you need to see. Make sure it is made out of like 22 guage steel or so I recomend no lighter then that (no need to go SS)

Just my thoughts (my dad is a sheet metal worker with his own shop)

It seems to me that this has the potential to be a nice clean set up for a potetially messy job.

Good luck

Like I said I my dad has a full shop, so I just go in and build it my selfe or designe it and he brings it home for me.

I have a custom 4'hx4'lx2' wide three level ferret cage that I designed and built myselfe.

I guess its all in what you have access to...

That was just my designe idea with a point in the direction of how to get it done with out your own shop to build it in

that was a good reference, thanks

i might make mine like that also.. the sink i thought of is proble way to small.

i had already thought of the toilet falnges.... (not that i go sticking my arms down toilets )

another thing i notice on the bought boxes is that there is a paper filter on the back.. which is a good idea os the box doesnt pressureize and have sand blast thru ur seals..

Also having a place to hook a shop vac to it is basicly a must. As your sand or media wears it turns to dust. You need the vac to suck the dust out, or you won't be able to see what your doing. Note it will dirty the filter in the vac fairly quickly, so I recomend using one that the filters are not to expensive for. Or even better one with a filter you can clean.

Yea use NEW toilet flanges please.

I plan to have a filtered inlet so the box does not get pressurized and a shop vac hook up for dust removal.

you could use a cheap dust buster.. and the filters in them are always easy to clean..

rx7carl: make sure u post up ur pics of the finished box, i should be starting mine very soon. cant wait to use it with out being sprayed in the face with rebounding sand..
