Sad Days

Friday a week ago, someone back up on my RX7. It was an SUV and got as far as the radiator. That was just great. Now my 1 year form not having to have emissions car is "totaled" again. They can't total it though.

A week later on Friday. My rear end goes out. I think that I shattered the diff. So i don't know if i'm going to get that fixed or not.

I may just part out the car and get another one. I can't have a disabled car at my apartment complex for very long time.

Oh well. I dropped the drive shaft out of it. So if i part it out maybe i can get enough to put some money down on another car.

here are some shots before people desided to hit my car.

No. The security guard at BoA was there. In fact the guy that hit me had a warrant out on him and he went to jail. But he had insurance according to the officer.

I hope that because it happened on private property that the insurance company doesn't cop-out on it. I really don't feel like sewing anyone.

Damage does not look bad from the outside at all. How far is the bumper pushed in and is the hood shifted? If the hood is not shifted back, the the substructure should be fine. All you may need to replace are the header panel and the bumper shocks, if they are out of spec.

Don't part it out, car can be easily repaired.

We're in mourning with you man. That' really sucks.

I bought a minivan this weekend with a rear camera to prevent myself from committing such atrocities!

Hang tough.

Man, what is with people nowadays and hitting our car's? Probably cause they don't actually look and since our cars are such low riding vehicles, they look right over them. And, being that it's an SUV, it figures. A guy in a pickup truck nearly T-boned me one time!

That is funny because I'm in Lexington this weekend for Christmas. My wifes family lives up here. The help would be welcomed to get it fixed. Depending on what I get from the insurance company I will be willing to fix it. I need a new rear end though and I'm not quite sure how to pull that off. God I love that car. Driving a Grand Am right now and it SUCKS!!!.

Anyone is welcome to give me a hand that is in the area. I find out Tuesday after Christmas, or at least no later than Wednesday I'm hoping, what I will get for the car. I'm hoping that with time I can get it fixed up right.

I recon from what yall are saying that I would be better off keeping it than scrapping it. I should be reading on how to swap the rear-end out. I don't think that I will be trying for an 85 SE swap though. I know someone that can do it but Kinda out of my price range right now.

If you come down to Atl give me a buzz. 770-833-8199. I answer the phone "Pip".

Well Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and any other holiday that I don't know how to spell or can rember at this point in time. /wave

Changing that header panel isn't hard, but a tad time consuming. You'll need to remove the headlight bezel covers, and maybe the headlights, to gain access to most of the bolts in the car, the others as you know are found inside the engine bay.

I say fix it. It looks too nice to part out. Even though you need a few things to fix it will cost a lot less. Good luck on everything and god bless

If there's a PicknPull near you they are having a new years half price sale this weekend for 3 days.

The center section is really easy to replace, as are headlight covers. You can get OEM colors from paintscratch.com.

That car is too good to part out.

Great news Pip, that's not a bad recovery on a car that they didn't consider totaled!

Aye, Ray. They did "total it" problem is in GA they can't total a car over 20 years old. they must give you at lest KBB for the car. Total damage according to the adjuster was 3500$ ouch! I didn't put up a fight with them about it though. i can get a lot done to the car for the amount i got.

I think they told me it is worth 1150$ kbb so they gave me more than that. i can't complain. So i get a front bumper, rear bumper, that front metal peice, a rear end, and get someone to do the clutch work on the car. Maybe that will hold me until i can get enough to replace the motor.

That reminds me, i need to wash it off to see if i have a broke seal sense i replace the oil sending unit. Also anyone in GA do compression testing?

Glad you are fixing it Pip, I have a rear bumber on an 85 GSL that's in pretty good condition that you can have if you like. I'm currently dismantling the car and getting rid of the hulk, so let me know in a week or two if you want it.

Small problems with it are:

1. It's brown, so it would need to be painted.
2. The bolts that hold the mounts to the body are rusted and hard to get to, I didn't even bother trying to get it off.
3. There's a small crack in the skin that is not noticeable and could probably be repaired.

The rear quarter panels on this car are also salvageable, if anyone is interested in these.

Good luck with the repairs!

Ray
