SA steering wheel into gsl-se
Hey Guys, I got a SA steering wheel (at least I think it's from an SA...) and I plan on putting it in my gsl-se once I get home for spring break in a few weeks. I was wondering if any other guys here have done this, and if so, do you have any pictures?
also, Here is a pic, I'm almost done sanding it down... I think it looks pretty cool in silver...

Did you recently outbid me for this item on E-bay???
I like the silver spokes to!!
I really like the SA steering wheels, I think some of the later year cars have a different diameter steering shaft, but i'm not sure.

i'm really not too consirned about the size, it looks like the same shaft size, but I'll be able to tell for sure in a few weeks
and no, this was never on e-bay, i got it from the good ol "for sale" section on this very forum! lol
thx for the compliments on the silver... I'm going to continue to work on it tonight to get rid of the rest of the old black paint, then I'm going to try to buff it out the best I can. I'm very excited, as I like the 4 spoke MUCH better than the "T" style of my gsl-se. Not to mention this one is black, not blue or red... (I have a red interior, but a blue wheel, apparently the previous owner was color blind or something...)
I've attatched a pic of the current wheel setup I have to this post to show ya all what i'm workin with
I plan on painting the steering column cover black too... should be pretty sweet when i'm done...

Hey, dirty girls are SEXAY.
It's a HELLUVA cleaner now, by the way. More torn apart, yes, but cleaner
That's when I first got it from the middle of the damn desert. Only one for sale in the entire town at the time (since then, there's been. . . . two. . . . others for sale, one with a bent axle, the other is asking too much)

True, Snapshot. These wheels are good, just not GOOD.
The only stock steering wheel I ever truley loved was on my old 91 Dodge Ram. It was thick, and not TOO tacky looking. Just FELT right, y'know?

My two '79s have stock 4-spoke wheels. I also have a 4-spoke wheel on my '85 GSL-SE that looks identical to the ones on the '79s, but it is slightly different where it slides onto the steering shaft. I tried to mount one from the '79 onto the '85 because it was cleaner, but it fit kind of funky. Its easier to see the difference in the two, if you look at the slight differences between the '79 & '85 steering shafts.
Well, if you do take a look at the end of the steering shaft from a '79, then compare that to that of an '85, there is a difference. I just replaced the steering box on the '85, thats when I found that there was a difference in the way the steering wheels mated to the shaft. I am by no means an expert mechanic, and I can't tell you exactly what was different without having them right in front of me, but they were not the same. If you are truly interested, I will dig through my parts stash and let you know.
I guess you guys are stuck on Mazda period wheels. But seriously, If you want to feel your car in your hands go aftermarket. A Momo is so form-fitted to 10-2 & 9-3 its scary magic. Even my mahogany Dino has finger grooves. Leather is better. Why stay w/ stock? No, really???

Yeah, no kidding! Unless you really do want to stick with the stock look, there are much more comfortable wheels available. I never thought any of the stock 1st gen wheels were designed properly.
That 4-spoke should fit the '84 and '85 models. It was actually available from '79 to '83. But the standard wheel on the base models for those years was a two-spoke with three holes in each spoke, and with the spokes in the 8:30 and 3:30 positions.
