SA Problem Noise!

Ok here goes I am going to try to explain this the best I can maybe I can get some help on the matter. I have an 79(SA) with 79 motor I was told the motor has a mild street port, stock carb, no rats nest, points dizzy and a header with stock exhaust components behiind it.

Now... on to the noise, I am hearing a sharp loud squeek / squeel almost like a belt slipping only it is not a belt slipping as we tried to hear the sound wthout the belt on and did hear it.

It only happens when you hit the throttle hard, if I ease down on the throttle there is no problem and no noise. When I am on the highway in 4th gear doing 60 or so and put the pedal to the floor I hear the squeeling and the car seems to lose power when it squeels it does not do it non stop but off and on in short bursts just enough to **** you off if you were racing someone which I dont on the street the car is a little old for that, and I am too.

Guys if you could help it would be great.

sounds to me like a clutch problem maybe .Do you know how old is the clutch,it could have oil or grease making it squeek?

Does it make the noise while in nuetral with the clutch in? With the clutch out? The clutch sounds more likely than anything I've been able to think of...

If you shift at high rpm, or just push in the clutch at higher rpm is the sound made?
Is it slipping at all (you said if you punch it it feels like you lose power, but does the rpm still rise?)

It makes the sound just sitting in neutral so I dont think it is the clutch that was one of my thoughts I also think it may be a timing issue?

similar to a rod knock? was a recent thread. Could be a spun bearing.

Ill see if I can find the thread.

Check your timing then. Spark knock in a rotary tends to sound like marbles in a tin coffee can when you step on it or rev to high rpms...

From front to back im going to break it down for you...
1. Fan clutch
2. belts
3. water pump going bad
4. highly doubt it's the bearing because that would be and oil issue and the motor would have locked up by now if it hasn't already!!!
5. clutch
6. flywheel
7. pressure plate
8. low on tranny fluid
9. tranny is going or no good...
I know this because this has happened to me many of times...and it's always different

By the way any luck on those fiber glass parts

Oh to clear things up's sharp noise like a squeal is not going to sound like marbles or rocks bouncing around in a tin or paper cup...

Apparently the noise has changed from a high pitched squeel to a knocking sound?
