Sa intake?

My local junk yard has a rx7 laying there with a full engine. I've gotten parts before but today I had to get a temp sending unit out of the radiator and guess I never noticed it was a SA. I've heard they have better intakes? I could prolly get the intake and carb cheap. So are the SA's intakes better? Any other parts that I should grab?

SA is somewhat better for flow, but it won't cover the ACV port so it's time for quicksteel.

I have all the emissions an rats nest removed any way. Is it worth the time and effort? I've tried searching and can't find any answers. My fb intake already has all the block off plates and that valve in one off the runners removed.

i put one on my 85 gsl, quick steeled the acv port. I'd love to say it made a hell of a difference but at the same time i put an rb steel flywheel and kia rear end in. you wanna make it really quick for cheap? KIA gears! my stock port 12a will keep up with rx8's in a straight line now

Yeah, but your top speed is like 80 now.

car still does over 100 mph lol the drive to DGRR sucked, but at DGRR the gearing was AMAZING. If I had to drive this on the highway all the time i'd not recommend a 4.77 gear, but where I live it's perfect! I'm spoiled, my ride to work is similar to the roads around the dragon. Now i just need to find out how to get a 6 speed in there...

i'd use tools....

the 6 speed is theoretically easy in an SA, as the shifter should line up. so the trans bolts to the engine, although you need an Rx8 starter, and the T2/Rx8 clutch, and T2/Rx8 sized flywheel.

you need the turbo size driveshaft, or front yoke.

and then you need to make some kind of trans crossmember, the Rx8 has a couple of studs in the right place, its just that your SA/FB mount and bracket need to change.

and you're done!

oh there's no speedo drive on the Rx8 trans, so you need to come up with something

an FB is harder, as the Rx8 shifter is further forward, there is/are some combination of Aisin parts to move the shifter back, but i don't know what they are

This is very interesting..... Never thought of this swap. Since I lost my clutch at DGRR and the tranny starting jumping out of gear this could be a possibility for me.

couple of questions, is the six speed a close ratio gearset?

and the six speed is from the Rx-8, right?

Suggestions for the speedo?? Everything else is doable for me.

The drive back from DGRR I was thinking the whole time, "Man, this needs one more gear" I didn't put much more thought into it other than that. I figured since some miata and the rx8 trans is 6 speed it wouldn't be too difficult.

Yeah that's sounds like more work and cash than I want to do lol. I called junk yard and can get the intake/carb for $30. Or the entire engine for $100 pulled. I'd like to get entire engine and rebuild and port it so it's ready to go while mine still runs good.

i'm thinking of the 04-08 Rx8 transmission, which is a 6 speed, its a close ratio set, it is basically just the competition transmission from the SA with a granny 1st. this means that 6th in the Rx8 and 5th in the Rx7 are about the same.

the 09 transmission as actually a Mazda transmission, it has slightly different gearing, installation is the same.

for the speedo, the Rx8 just uses the ABS sensors, and there are some hot rod type devices you can get that will drive a speedo cable from a motor, so its a problem that has been solved, the hard part is summits website....
