Sa info needed

Ok, for several years now I have always thought of the SA being a 4 speed tranny. I have seen several post lately that have been saying the sa's came with 5 speeds. Can someone please post some data on this.

Did they come with 4 and 5 speeds? If so what models had 4 and what had 5.

Also if they did have 5 speeds was the gear ratio the same as the 81-85 12a 5 speeds?

Yea, you could get either a 4 speed or a 5 speed on the '79. I don't know which models had which.

I wish the top part wasn't black...I think it looks kind of dorky. I always thought that someday I'd have a body shop fill that part in and paint it the same color as the body, but never have.

Rotary enginnering made those tail-light finish panels back in the late 80's

as far as gear ratios go, all the 79-83 5mt came with the same gear ratios,
3.674/2.217/1.432/1.0/.825
the only differences between the 79/80 and the 81+ version is obviously the shift tower placment

as far as i can tell the the 79 4mt was the same minus the 5th gear. If someone has documentation that proves otherwise, please let us know!

I have an old RX-7 ad from '79 that gives the gear ratios as being the same. 5th gear is overdrive.

According to http://home.online.no/~arban/RX7.html , the '79's S trim came standard with the 4-speed. The GS came with the 5-speed.

Presumably, the GS was far more popular, making the 4-speed a rare sight.
