SA to FB

OK so after searching till my head hurt I didn't see a clear cut answer.

Has anyone tried to put a FB shifter into a SA, if so what did/didn't work.

What I am wondering specifically is other than the differences in interior what is different. How big of a difference in the tail shaft how big a difference in the tranny tunnel opening etc.

Thanks

Do you want to switch just the shifter or the whole transmission?

If you are wanting the shift position of the FB. than you have to use the FB trans. You will have to cut the floor opening back another 2 inches for the shifter to clear. Then you will need to make/modify a floor seal. It's not that hard to do, been there done that. Plus you will enjoy the taller overdrive the FB trans has to offer. Which is nice on the interstate . The hole in the floor is the only differance. The trans mount, speedo cable, and crossmember are the same.

^^^According to the trans gearing guide in the Archives, the S1 and S2 gearsets are the same with the S3 12A cars having a slightly taller 5th gear and the SE having an even taller 5th.

if you're talking about just the shift lever, it could be done, but the locating pin is on the other side, so it would have to move, or something

I used a FB and SA seal and ring, and kinda merged them together. I had also swapped in a S3 FB dash before I changed the trans, so I don't know how the new shifter location will play out with the SA dash.

This should give you an idea on the tunnel modification.
