SA factory A/C switch

The A/C compressor comes on anytime the fan is on. I noticed that in 1981 they changed the fan switch so you can run the HVAC fan without the A/C compressor. Can I replace my fan switch with one out of a 81 or 82, or do I have to some wiring changes as well?

If I remember from my sa, 18 yrs. ago,
I "think" there is a button in the center of the switch that turns the ac comp on/off.
Maybe it's not working?
You could rerout it to a switch by the shifter, so you can switch it off easily when STREET racing.

compare the wiring diagram between yours and the later (81+) RX7. go to wankel.net. There are PDF files of all the wiring diagrams there, I believe. While you do need the later model dash rotary fan switch with the "AC" button, you also need a relay I believe...

Something is wrong with your switch. I have an 80, the A/C only comes on IF the fan is on and you press the button in the middle of the fan switch for the A/C.
