Honestly, I was't sure how hard it would be to achieve or pass 1.4g. I seem to remember reading in the race tech section that it wasn't easy. Good to know it isn't that hard and I stand corrected.

With suspension mods and wider wheels, better tires, hitting over 1g on the skid pad is fairly easy, but can run around 2k to do the full upgrade.

Next thing to compare is hp/weight ratios. What does the Scoob weigh in at and what's the hp of the Stage II? Lastly what's it's 1/4 mile ETs.

Comparing hard numbers will give you an idea of how big/extreme you'll need to go. The RX7 was built for handling, not the drag strip. With the right mods, it can me built to handle both reasonably well as a package, but trying to build it for dual purposes tends to be a compromise between the two.
According to R&T in 1979 Lateral G's for the Rx-7 were .779 However you could probably safely go +/- .2 G or so for driver error.

I love these old magazines, kinda neat to have a window of sorts back in time, when your baby was brand new on the dealer lot...

Well my car is pretty solid. The only part that has rust would be the doors but those are easily replaced enough. The rest is solid. As for the 302 swap, its a real good idea but i cant put american motors in a japanese car vis versa. As for the wheels i do want to put some fender flares on so i can increase the offset. I was also thinking the re-speed steering rack can be quiet the advantage out on the track.

You will need 8-10k to make a 7 compare to a STI. Only downside to the rx7 is you cannot hold four people comfortably.

i should mention the pro7 and the IT prepped 1st gens will run about the same lap times as we do.

g's are hard to measure unless you've got a lot of open parking lot, or some fancy equipment

As far as 1/4 mile times my stock turbo STi ran a 12.32 @ 111, i was ontop of a little stock turbo list for a few weeks on nasioc.com last year. If you can beat that you'll beat most any stgII STi in a straight line.

I pulled a few car lengths on a modified STi on a 3rd gear roll up to the top of 4th. That gives you an idea of what you need as far as power goes. Mods are in the sig.

A decent TII-powered FB should easily kill the STi on a highway roll, but a STi with a decent driver on the strip is a different animal. They are beast from a dig and you will need some DRs and a decent amount of power to pull off the high trap speed necessary to beat a STi with its lower trap speed, but better 60ft times.

Exactly. This thread is also somebody's wet dream.
The "What-If" part of it is total mental masturbation.
It takes a lot of time and money...
To be clear.... A LOT (shitload) of time and money.

To make a first gen compete with a MODIFIED Stage X+Y=Z STi.

Or you could do what I did and have your light, agile rx7 track rat and your practical daily driver STI (with 2 car seats in back). No problems

And how obnoxious is the rear wing? I was thinking of getting something like that, or the toned down version. I am heading more towards the latter, but simply because the big wing you have I think I will not see the cars behind me very well with...

This is mine. FB as auto-x/track and when the FB is not running, use the daily Mazdaspeed 3 for auto-x/track.

The wing on the STI is not only a cop magnet, it cuts completely across the rear view. A common thing to do is to trade trunks with standard WRX's winged one or go completely wingless. I like the stealthier look, only the brembos give you away.

my brother in law has a speed3.. sweet ride.
