The AFM isn't much of an issue. The slow, nasty, non-programmable ECU is your main problem. Your best bet for an upgrade is to use a good modern speed-density standalone EMS that will work well on an NA rotary engine. The Wolf3D works very well with its stock MAP sensor, and the Haltech computers would be good with the 1 Bar MAP sensor option. This will let you throw the AFM in the garbage, and with proper tuning you will have more power, better throttle response, and better gas mileage.

In the US they sell for a little over $1,400 USD for the full setup. I'm not sure about dealers and pricing in Canada. Here is a link to the Wolf website:
http://www.wolfems.com.au/home

If you want something less expensive, a used Haltech E6K with a 1 Bar MAP sensor would work just fine.

With any standalone EMS, plan on spending about $500 USD on professional tuning. If you can buy an EMS from an authorized dealer who will give you a package deal that includes installation and tuning, this is even better. EMS installation is similar to installing an advanced stereo system, but tuning is extremely difficult, if not impossible, for the average person. Once the EMS is tuned, most people with a little background in internal combustion engines can make fine adjustments on their own.
