S5 alternator in '79 SA

I'm still working this out but the car runs off it right now. After removing the external voltage regulator, I followed the archive nfo and wired jumpers in as so.

The red represents the jumpers.

Then I wired the Alternator up running the 'L' terminal into the White/Black wire and the 'S' Terminal directly to the battery on a 5amp fused wire. I just bolted the original B terminal wire to the b post on the alternator after swapping the hardware off the stock alt's B terminal.

Now, the only issue is the Voltage gauge does not function with the key in the 'ON' position. What step did I miss to cause this?

I checked the FAQ and it's all so vague. Does no one have an answer?

Check the wiring diagrams to see what line goes to the cluster for the voltage.

well, they helped, but the plug that went to the laternator only had 2 wires on it instead of 4 on this car. Just the white/black and black/white. I'll just have to keep trying at this and study your drawngs some more. They did help though. I notcied the wires are hacked up a bit in places. the previous owner must have done some stuff. This will make it nmore difficult....

For some reason I'm having great trouble working on this SA than I did on my FD or FC. and on seemingly easier thiings!! maybe some caffiene will help....My problem is at the voltage regulator plug. I had no trouble wiring the S5 alt as I had put an FD alt into my S4 2 years ago. so that was easy enough.

I found the 1 and 2 wires on the bug harness, but what am I supposed to do with them? I thought the jumpers need only be placed on the voltage regulator plug.

well, I'll figure this out eventually! Sorry if I ask for alot of hand-holding through all this! BTW, the SA looks much more similair to the FD. The FC looks the least related of all three gens. I'd suspected this, but when I parked them all by each other it was eveident.
