S5 13b into a 84GSL-SE (I searched!)

Okay, here is the scoop. I've got a GREAT deal lined up on a 84 GSL-SE 4intact apex seals, and the rest of the car is in amazing shape and all I have to do is pick it up . Now, I've never owned a rotary before, but I've got a pretty good handle on them(I've always wanted one) the question is this: Could I swap in the higher hp series 5 13b fuel injected motor into this car? I figure they are bolth F.I. so that has to simplify alot, and the motors bolth have the same engine code... is it a drop in sort of deal?

In addition where can I pick up an S5 motor preferably a Reman so I won't have to worry about it, and if the price is right a streetported one would be nice.

If not, where could I get a reman S3 13b?

I don't think it's worth it, and I'm sure plenty of people here will agreewith me.

If you want power, then you should go turbo.

it's going to be a fun daily driver. I've got the fast car in the garage already. Basically it'll take me to work and back.

Ok,

Here's what I would do:

1. Open motor and Rebuild with street port.
2. Get an after market ECU Haltech/Microtech/Wolf
3. Full Racing Beat Exhaust
4. Full Racing Beat Suspension
5. Wheels and Brakes

You will be able to get the most out of tha engine with the aftermarket ECU while possibly improving MPG.

When U get tired of it, you can part it out and get some of your money back, because all those parts will sell in a heart beat.

So that would be alot better bang for the buck than the whole S5 swap? Also since I'd have it all apart anyway could I put in the S5 rotors? I used to build Honda motors so the lighter rotor/higher compression thing just sings out to me as a key to higher N/A hp.

If you're going to go through all that, turbo it. Turbo is BETTER!

Yeah. Then you'll have TWO VERY fast cars.

However, to answer your original question, Yeah, you could easily swap in a later model n/a. Its been done before, but its not a comon of swap as you would think.

I personally opted for teh turbo route. I'd really like to get an n/a efi thou, just for giggles (that is of course assuming i had money for it.)

We put an s4 motor in my sis's SE, and it seems to be a bit quicker... granted the motor was free, and her's was siezed (Blew an oil line at 4 grand). Doing a na swap is a lot easier than a turbo, but the turbo is more fun.

I'll give more thought to the turbo idea, but won't I have alot of issues with intake placement, exhuast system, Intercooler placement and the like because it's a bodystyle that never had a turbo in it.

Where could I pick up all the stuff for the turbo swap? I'm assuming I'd be dropping in a TII motor right?

Back to the S5 motor are the housings and mounts the same? Would I be able to bolt the S3 mounts onto the S5 motor? and again were can I get the motors?

No, you need the SE front cover and oil pan. Motors... depends.
