rx7s are supposed to sound like this, right? and other q's.

the the car i have my eyes set on right now.

http://frontfly.com/myrouter/rx7/01_...01_31_40PM.jpg

looks pretty good on the outside. it is a rebuild, but it hard to say just what was rebuilt. my dad looked at it and couldn't see any obvious welds, seams or creases that indicate major frame damage. there is also only the most minimal beginnings of rust on the rear wheelwell corners.

paint looks pretty okay, with the only big chips being on the front bumper.

every electrical gadget(wipers, lights, stereo, etc) works, car starts on the first try and there is no excessive smoke or oil leakage on the block. the signal lights seem to stay on after you turn though, and as i mentioned before, the steering wheel seems to be on way crooked. [b]the car is supposed to sound a bit like a chainsaw, right? with that vague sort of "braaaapapaaaaaaabraaaapapa" noise?

the car has ~130,000 miles on it (200,000kms), and very new tires.

the leather interior is perfect. the only problem areas are the trunk carpet being quite ratty, and the hinge of one storage bin is broken off. the hatch struts are also pretty much dead.

I have NOT:

- taken this car on the freeway or otherwise tested it at high speeds
-gotten them to put the steering wheel on straight and top off the tires
-checked under the storage bins(do you have to take those apart somehow in order to pull them out?)
-attemped to haggle.
-done a carfax or liens check

they want can2600$ for this 84 gslse. what do you think? and how do i get the storage bins out?

The sound sounds normal for a rotary.

Lift the lid to the bins, take out all the screws. The bin will lift out, you'll have to work around the light (if there is one) at the inside top of the bin. Just keep pulling and lightly twisting.
Once out, pull up the insulation and look for rust.
Good Luck!

Id have to say that by the sound youre trying to describe is that the car may have a straight piped exhaust system... no cats..sweet huh
Drive it..listen for noises, looseness of anything.. look at it extensively all over and under. 2600 sounds a bit high but it could be the best deal that you may run into.

Yea that noise seems to be pretty normal for a rotary. for some reason mine doesn't do it, it idles really quiet and silky smooth. All the other Fb's I've seen in person have that rougher idle. Guess I'm just lucky.

It looks like a car I test drove about eight months ago, had a female owner. Same colours in and out, and in the Vancouver area. What I found was the car always wanted to go right, both driving and on braking. Get an open stretch of road & make sure no-one else is around, get up to about 50 k's & hit the brakes, making sure you've got a good grip on the wheel. You don't have to lock them up. Stop straight?
Then get going again and try "lightly" hanging on to the steering wheel. If it wants to wander right it's probably the same car & may require more "rebuilding".

Looks pretty good. Definitely check under the wheel wells. On mine, pulling the storange bins out wasn't enough. I had to remove the bin frame to see the rust, but it's gone now
