My understanding is that you have to take the thermal reactor off and put the header where it used to be....

How do you have a thermal reactor on an 82? Don't you have a catalytic converter?

The Haynes manual calls all of the exhaust manifolds thermal reactors. This is incorrect, but you can't fault a guy for stating it

No, but a new one would be a good idea. You can buy them from Mazdatrix:

If you get the RB header you will also need to get the correct presilencer if you wish to use the stock conecting pipe.
