I don't think a dealer let you take it by yourself did he? They don't let you go 90 in 3rd when they're with you either. Sounds like fun though.

depends on the dealership.....and the individual salesman.

I used to sell Hondas.......and would let people get up on the S2000 when they first came out.

It was all you could do, to change their way of thinking......with them under the impression that this was a typical Honda.....probably slower than a Miata.

I only missed 1 out of almost 20 S2000 sales after letting the customer really jump on the throttle.

Yeah, I thought about asking to test drive one, but of the 4 that were in the lot, 3 had reserved signs on them, and the 4th said it wasnt available until next month. Besides, I dont think they would really let me test drive on, but it would be worth a shot .

They even had one of the reserved ones with the grand touring package and the navagation system .

It's weird you say it was that quick...others say it's kinda of slow. But yeah, the handling defenetly is got to be owesome on it. I know they let them for a drive in my local dealership...i might go there one of these days to check it out.

I love how they let people rally the hell out of new cars when they haven't even passed the break-in period...

Way to totally ruin a car early on!

Me too, I went to my local mazda dealer (westcott) to ask about mazda keys. the ones with the numbers on them. anyway,, there was a black RX8 in the aisle, after i was done in parts i walked out and started to check out the 8 for the first time ever !!. the sales guy walks up and says ' you like ?? ' Me says ' don't know haven't driven it yet ' he says ' lets go !! ' WE get in and go. all i can say is that IT IS SMOOTH. no power band,,just smooth, good brakes,It felt like a 3 litre V6 that could wind right up. from 1-10. i give it a 7.,,,,get it ?? Lol.
true story .

My bro just drove one. He said he really liked it. He used to own a GSL-SE. I'll need to check out an 8 soon.

the s.e. rx7 club got a private showing at rick case mazda. they had 4 rx8's 2 in the service bay 1 to test drive and a auto in the air. they gave us dinner and let about 30 people test drive a 6 speed.
they had a 20 year old kid from the dealer in the car he was hard on the car so we (yayo and me) were hard on it. he did a e brake 180 and hit redline in 1-4, i did some donuts and redlined it in1-3 it chirped them also. i loved the dam car

I think most dealerships have one car of each model specifally for testdriving. Then they sell it at a discount when the new model comes out. So i doubt anyone's going to unknowingly end up with a highly abused car.

but anyway, i didnt know they were spreading out in the states already. I'll have to go check one out.
